Anti-abortion (choice) emails
This holiday season I had a problem setting up a tech toy and I spent many, many hours on the phone with customer service reps. At some point it became necessary for me to email a customer service rep. My problem was resolved and I thought that would be the last time I ever heard from this customer service rep.

How wrong I was. I have apparently been added to this person's "friends" email list and I am now receiving horrific anti-choice emails complete with gruesome, graphic photos.

Obviously, I need to contact the company. I'm just disgusted by these emails. I hate for someone to get fired, but she's representing that company.

What should I do?

1. Find every bit of pro-choice literature available, and every bit of negative anti-choice news
and hit "reply-all" every day.

Then call the company.

4. I wouldn't do that..it would fuel the fire.
and give the person a hint as to who got them fired...

18. Staying quiet in the face of propaganda and outright lies for fear of retaliation
is exactly what got us into this situation in the first place.

2. report it.
no sympathy for the twit.

I never use my company account for anything political and very rarely for private use...and the emails I send are to my husband to remind him to pick up the kids or to ask what I should pick up on the way home...

5. Did you at anytime give her reason to think that you are liberal and a Democrat ?
If you did, she could be a Republican and sending emails to you deliberately. If these is the case I would contact the company and have them to stop her from sending you emails. If you don't think she's doing this deliberately I would contact her and ask her not to send anymore emails.

6. Your email never should have been added to this person's private list --
and judging from my own experience with email, it doesn't happen by accident.

Report it, imo. If the person is fired, it will serve him/her right, to be honest.

7. Report it.
This person should not be using the company's customer list for ANYTHING, let alone personal proselytizing.

8. As a former manager of a technical support group, I say REPORT IT.

I'd fire such an individual in a heartbeat ... no matter what 'side' they were on. That's theft of company services and a violation of a business relationship. It's a CRIME.

11. My husband's been in Tech Support for over 30 years
I can tell you he would be fired in a NY Minute if he ever did anything like this; both from small companies to large corporations.

Yes, as you said it is an ethics and business relations violation.

17. Yup. It's really a no-brainer. I'd fire the person no matter what they were advocating.
I'd be amazed if that person wasn't already on probation or close to losing their job. That kind of behavior is just plain pig-headed STUPID. Someone like that can't be doing a decent job.

9. Have you asked her to stop?
That'd be step one if you don't want her to be fired. I'd probably let her know that if she sends any more of her filth, it will be reported to the company that she has used a company email list to proseletyze.

You could also just forward what she's sending you to the general customer service of the company--that'd probably endanger her job, though.

If step one fails, move on to step two. Good luck!

14. No, I haven't replied to any of her emails.
Frankly, I just thought i'd found my way onto her personal email list and starting getting her mass forward emails. I'm never one to read most of those things people send, so I let the first few go. But, I was curious last night and opened one. I was horrified.

I thought about responding to her, but I really don't want her sending those to others.

15. She's taken advantage of you and the company she works for.
I'm sorry to hear that you're getting horrifying stuff from here.

I guess you have to decide whether you think she should be fired for it and act accordingly.

12. This asshole deserves no mercy from you, as they obviously have none
for others. Compile a collection of their obscenity, and forward it to the company. They are stealing from that company and should be outed ASAP.:grr:

13. Forward all emails to abuse@whatever.com
The "abuse" addy usually gets through. It's how to deal with any sort of spam that you can trace.

However, I'd send the rep a warning, first. She may have inadvertently added you to the wrong address book. Forward the next abusive email after the warning.

If you need to complain, do it by mail. You'd be surprised how fast anything you spent 39 cents to mail gets attention.

People are entitled to their opinions, even the wrong opinions. Clogging up an unwilling recipient's email inbox with garbage is not wise, though, especially on company time.

19. E-mail the person back. Tell them, while you respect intelligent debate,
you don't respect idiots trying to gross you into agreeing with them.

Then, tell them to stop or you will inform their supervisor.

21. Report it to the company
Whether this person realizes it or not, she is representing the company and has no right injecting her personal beliefs into company business. I would tell her to remove you from her mailing list and that you are also reporting it to the company. I am assuming that this rep sent these e-mails on the company address, and not a private address? If it IS on a private address, all the more reason to report it. That is using business information for personal advantage -- another problem.

Don't worry about what happens to this person -- it's her problem.

it might also be illegal to send pics of dead humans unsolicited via email.

I'm all for a healthy discussion on the abortion issue but this is terrorism. Period.
