Washington’s Farewell Address Translated into Everyday Speech |
|
Link here: http://blag.xkcd.com/2007/01/29/washingtons-farewell-address-translated-into-the-vernacular/I thought this was interesting, and worth reading. I'd never read it in the original, either, but I think this one is a lot easier to read!

1. It's incredible, either way |
|
--- The Washington Farewell Address to Congress is a real reminder that the first president could be the philosophical and intellectual equal of Jefferson or Adams.
--- Didn't think much of political parties, did he?

2. washington deserves his accolades despite having one HUGE flaw which of course was |
|
owning slaves.
given that he was a man of his times, it is amazing how prescient he was and how relevant this address still is.
beware of foreign entanglements.
and political parties that are running amok.
and presidents allowed to get out of control.

3. Political Parties, National Debt, Entangling Alliances |
|
Those are the three things you get quizzed on, the three things Washington warned us to steer clear of.
Ah, well.
