I'm in the library studying breach and duty and it occurs to me |

that while I'm fascinated with law and the legislative process, I'm also a dedicated contrarian and relish an excellent act of noncompliance and well turned act of civil disobedience. I enjoy a well conceived movement to overturn a law or gut one for the little guy.
I'm trying to decide if I've made a smart career move now. What do you think? Are most of us here on DU like this? Even the legal minds among us?

2. you bring back fond memories... |

...spending the weekends at the library studying contract law while preparing for the bar with a giant latte in front of me. Now I sit in an office on weekends, preparing for my next case!
Their are lots of attorneys who fight for those who relish in noncompliance! You are in exactly the right field (except for the student loans).
When I started law school, I was originally going to focus on mediation and was a board member of ADR and volunteered at the local alternative dispute resolution center. That is when I found out how black and white I am!
Studying law teaches you alot about yourself.

I don't see why you can't work for those who defy the law.

if you are referring to our illegal president and you are referring to the ways to stop his distruction of our laws set-out in the Constitution, stay in the library and continue your studying. We need all the help we can get.
To impeach a president he must have committed treason, bribery, or high crimes and misdemeanors. Something like that.
Per Dictionary: trea·son n] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
Best I can tell 2. and 3. seem to fit. bush has had His Attorney's define the law and what the Constitution says. I've noticed that attorneys tend to find the best law they can to defend their client. No problem with that, but, when you are President of the U.S. and your attorneys have interpretations of the laws to protect You that are totally contradictions to the original meaning and contrary to the interest of the People then we need hearings to investigate and interpret those ridiculous ruling of bush's attorneys. Guess you could call that reason to bring impeachment hearings?
Edit: We need attorneys that consider the ramifacations of what they believe in vs. selling their soul for big bucks. That is a hard one when you consider the sacrifices you make to get that Degree. Life is short so you should do what feels good for you and what you can live with. A law degree opens many doors. Being a trial lawyers is a tough road to follow. You end up fighting your opponent, many times your client, the judge and the System. Good luck!
