Yum, I love me some southern fried Obama, anyone else? |

What happened to him? He doesn't talk with any hint of southern accent usually, until today right now as he is speaking in Iowa.

at least Hillary lived in the South for a while, but she didn't sound like that back then.

14. The way you pronounce words isn't that big a deal, as long as you don't sound like Bush. |
|
:P
I'm being silly, people shouldn't be so mean. We've got three great people running on our side, the other side doesn't like any of their choices. We've raised more money than they have, when was the last time that happened? This is going to be fun. I don't live in any of the important primary states, by the time I vote they'll have picked the person. I get no chance to really choose. I have to accept it, or I have to vote Republican. So I'm going to accept whoever it is.

Everyone here did not agree with the claim that she was pandering. I remember some people on tv trying to make a big deal out of it. We should avoid channeling their shallowness here. We have real issues that we need to focus on.

from the Chicago Seven trial, when asked about a conspiracy, Abbie Hoffman testified, "We couldn't agree on lunch." (DUers, not you and I.) I will admit that I did not read much from those threads, because I thought it was utter foolishness. I have no problem taking your word that the majority of DUers who participated on those select threads took the stance you say they did. But I do not think that translates into the majority of DUers. As always, I could be wrong, but I think that there are times when vocal minorities are a majority on a thread, simply because intelligent people are not interested in arguing about nonsense.

I probably should stay off of DU until the caucuses are done. The last few days of attack and adore are giving me indigestion.
I'll try to do a better job to stay out of the campaign drama.

Or let me guess... you aren't really a racist, you'll just think up an excuse to hate Obama. Like you have Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Russell Means, and apparently anyone else not caucasian who has any involvement in politics.

I can't wait until my niece is that age.
If they put him back on, listen. I wonder if it isn't the midwest? I remember Bush's father sounded like foghorn leghorn and he was from Ohio.
Oh God, now we've got the fascist on. Rudy the redfaced mayor, had a very shiny nose. If you ever saw it, you would even says it grows. All of the other pubbies, wouldn't let him laugh and play, they never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games.

23. Oh, for cryin' out loud. I was raised in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kentucky. |
|
First, the perception of what constitutes a "southern accent" varies from individual to individual. What you perceive as "southern" might be perceived by my African-American colleague as an entirely different expression of culture shared within the African-American community. And what I perceive as a "southern accent" probably is perceived by people in Georgia differently than it's perceived by people in Tennessee, Kentucky, the Virgnias, the Carolinas, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, to name just a few of the "southern accents" I've heard.
Not jumpin' up your business. Just explaining.

that it's natural, and even admirable, for a speaker to easily perceive, identify with and slip into the linguistic "culture" of his/her audience/colleagues. It's not necessarily pretense. For example: I speak English, German, Swiss-German and Italian, as well as smidgeons of Spanish and French. How I speak English is different, depending on whether I'm speaking with my family/friends in Arkansas and Oklahoma, or my family/friends from other parts of the country. How I speak Swiss-German is different, depending on whether I'm speaking with/to someone from Basel or someone from Zürich. How I speak Italian is different, depending on whether I'm talking with someone from Sardinia, Milano or Toscona. There are completely other words, accents, hand gestures and facial expressions that come with regional and even cultural dialects.
When I said, "jump all up your business" and used the word "smidgeon," I gave away my own linguistic roots, the speaking/writing "voice" most familiar and comfortable to me. It's my "first language," so to speak. :)
On the subject of "Bush is one. :puke: " we certainly can agree. :)

One of them on the Ed Schultz show today actually called Obama a "black Muslim", while at the same time kissing ridiculous amounts of Hillary ass, even the guest host knew she was a shill.
