Call White Households-Ask Them To Vote For Democrats-Use Voice Of "Ghetto Black Guy"
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 05:07 PM by kpete
It was a world in which, he claims, dirty tricks were the norm. When Mr. Raymond opened a political telemarketing firm, he was hired by a Republican challenging a New Jersey Democratic congressman. Mr. Raymond’s company — in a plan he says he hatched with the challenger’s advisers — called liberal Democrats and urged them to vote for the Green Party candidate.

Those same advisers, he says, gave Mr. Raymond another assignment: to call white households asking them to vote for the Democrat, using the voice of, as he puts it, a “ghetto black guy.” He also called union households, using voices with thick Spanish accents.

No one is suggesting that Mr. Sununu knew anything about the phone jamming. Mr. Raymond says his instructions came from James Tobin, the northeast regional director of the Republican National Committee. And he says a top official of the New Hampshire Republican Party provided the phone numbers of the Democratic get-out-the-vote banks. Mr. Raymond jammed the lines — placing hundreds of hang-up calls an hour — to five Democratic offices across the state and a phone bank run by volunteer firefighters.

Mr. Raymond pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit phone harassment and was sentenced to five months in prison. Mr. Tobin argued in court that the idea to jam the phones was not his and that he committed no crime. A federal appeals court in Boston reversed his conviction, saying that the law he was found guilty under was not “a close fit for what he did.” The Republican Party has paid a high-priced law firm in Washington to defend Mr. Tobin, according to The Associated Press, and Mr. Raymond suspects it is because Republican bigwigs “wanted him to keep his yap shut” about the origins of the scheme.

7. Disgusting, but...
...it begs the question, Do you want to win or do you want to occupy the moral high ground while losing yet again?

I used to be of the opinion that the ends never justify the means, but seven years of BushCo has taught me otherwise. Where dealing with republicans is concerned, winning is the only thing that matters anymore. This country can't survive another GOP administration, particularly when you consider who's campaigning for the top spot on the GOP ticket.

Siphoning off votes to marginal candidates, playing the race card, voter caging, election fraud and the rest of the time-tested GOP arsenal is, in fact, disgusting. However, not as disgusting as the idea of another fascist administration, featuring lifetime judicial appointments up to and including the supreme court. Four more years of the Chency presidency, including the steaming pile of repressive domestic legislation rammed through by BushCo and its allies in congress -- on both sides of the aisle.

I'll have plenty of time to contemplate my compromised ethics once this pack of vampires is safely behind bars and the GOP is completely out of power. Until then, there's nothing too sleazy if it serves to get rid of republicans at all levels of government -- from the white house to the county coroner's office.

10. And that may be the most depressing legacy of BushCo....
and the Rethuglican "Revolution:" we're becoming a banana-republic with our government run by whomever is best at cheating, dirty tricks and outright thuggery.

11. What a completely sensible position
I read where some knucklehead was actually in tears because she had to vote for John Kerry last election instead of her favorite John Edwards. Some people are really clueless wp.

13. Day after tomorrow, every Freepers will deny this story was ever published.
"Election fraud in New Hampshire?," they'll say. "Proved against Republicans?," they'll say. "We have no idea what you're talking about."

Wingnuts have such selective memories that they can remember things that aren't crimes (such as Hillary's billing records) but can never remember how very often Republicans are caught doing something wrong (which -- beause Republicans are much more corrupt -- is much, much, much more often than Dems.)

And on the rare occasion when they DO remember -- or have to admit -- some GOP malfeasance, they either blame it on the media or try to suggest that something a Democrat previously did (such as Hillary's billing records) are a more serious transgresion. There is no honor among such people. No integrity.

I hate lying, cheating, meanspirited, selfish, cruel, stupid Republicans.

Which is pretty much all of them these days.
