I just had a sickening thought occur to me this morning. Seeing Chuck Norris standing behind Fuckabee last night, and given his sudden interest in right-wing politics, what if he starts to get personally involved? You don't suppose that sometime in the future, he'll drape himself in the cloak of St. Ronnie and run for office, do you? I think the rethugs would just cream their collective pants if someone like Chuck Norris were to run for president.

4. He has a cult-like following |
|
We're dealing with a nation that worships celebrity, and helped elect * twice (albiet with some help from the Supreme Court and Diebold). We're dealing with a nation where Britney Spear's custody battle shares front page coverage with the Iowa caucus. Chuck Norris has become a cottage industry. Don't underestimate the amount of people who would vote for him simply because it would be "cool" to have Chuck Norris as president. Of course, the evangelicals would love him as well.

5. The whole Chuck Norris thing is just bizarre. It's one thing for a celebrity |
|
to announce support, maybe come out on the campaign trail, but to attend all the debates and stand behind the candidate during the victory speech as if he's a family member...not even Obama had Oprah on stage with him. Very, very strange.

6. Norris would get creamed |
|
He'd appeal to a certain slack-jawed segment of the populace, for sure. But a viable political candidate of more than merely local interest? Not hardly, methinks.

8. How do you explain Jesse Ventura? |
|
Granted, Ventura was elected governor and not president - but still, who would have ever thought that would happen?

First, Ventura was a local phenomenon. Second, he won one term in a three-way, deeply divided race. Third, he didn't have the bad example of the folly of putting a shovel-faced mutha (to use Garrison Keillor's memorable characterization) into the governor's mansion to fight against. I'm not sure where Norris would ply his political trade, but if he tried to go national, he'd get walloped.

15. And that would be different from * debating Kerry how? |
|
We've already seen one of the dumbest politicians ever debate both Al Gore and John Kerry. We see how that worked out.

but I do have a small belief in the ability of the American people to reject someone as outstandingly dumb as Norris. But yeah, perhaps I'm just too optimistic.

11. He's pushing 70. Realistically, a little late to start a political career. |

Looks damn good, though. Especially the new choppers with the built-in LED lighting.

12. Nah. Huck would just have Chuck parachute into Iran |

where he would single handedly take out the entire Revolutionary Guard, turn the nuke plants into cathedrals, and impregnate all women between 18 and 35.
