New Hampshire don't mean shit..... |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 11:43 AM by trumad
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Feb. 20) -- After a tough and testy campaign, conservative commentator Pat Buchanan scored a narrow, stunning victory tonight over Sen. Robert Dole (R-Kan.) in the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary. With votes counted from 100 percent of the Granite State's 300 precincts, Buchanan was ahead of Dole 27 percent to 26 percent. Former Tennessee Gov. Lamar Alexander was locked in third place, with 23 percent. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=&imgrefurl= http://www-cgi.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/news/9602/20/nh.results/&h=139&w=119&sz=12&hl=en&start=7&sig2=1cTYSQdrp5QT21WkkS2YPQ&um=1&tbnid=IGlXXPZsJPakrM:&tbnh=93&tbnw=80&ei=BrN_R5PYAZGmeuaT0Fg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpat%2Bbuchanan%2Bwins%2Bnew%2Bhampshire%26ndsp%3D20%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1B3GGGL_enUS176US232%26sa%3DN

10. What are you a mind reader? |
|
You don't even know who my candidate is....Honestly---I like them all and haven't chosen yet. My OP speaks to a different point though, one that obviously went right over your head.

13. Clinton got 3% in Iowa in 1992, but that point is just as irrelevant as yours |
|
2008, on the dem side, can't be compared to any other race at this point. I wouldn't freak out if any of our candidates won the nom, but I can admit that Obama or Clinton winning NH would be a HUGE DEAL. The Dem race could have been a three person race if Edwards won Iowa. He didn't, so now (barring a miracle) it is a two person race. Winning NH will be very, very important.
You can't compare 2008 to any other race on the Republican side either. NH may not decide anything. Huckabee would still handily lose NH but win the nomination. McCain could win NH like he did in 2000 and lose like he did in 2000. McCain could get hurt by independents breaking for Obama. Mitt could pull off a win.
The Rep side is still very much in the air. On the Dem side, if Obama wins he will certainly win SC and have some serious momentum. If Hillary wins, she is on track to mount her comeback. Alas, NH means alot.
So you have no slight favorite right now?

4. the OP brings up a great point |
|
In 1992, Bill Clinton lost the first FIVE Primary States before winning Georgia and then locking up the Nomination on Super Tuesday. Whoever wins NH, the race is far from being over.

but I do know she has money in the bank and the on-the-ground organization and support to compete on Super Tuesday where she has comfortable twenty point margins in most of the Big States (CA, NY, NJ, PA). And, as Georgia is on Super Tuesday, maybe she could win it. Who knows?

7. It's Part Of An Obstacle Course |
|
New Hampshire alone means shit. Iowa alone means the same. But put together with the on going corporate media narrative and compressed primary schedule, New Hamsphire is the latest obstacle in a test of stamina and organization.
An Edwards win on Tuesday makes him visible again, an Obama victory all but buries Hillary and a Hillary victory makes her the "comeback kid".
In the past New Hampshire was separated from Iowa by several weeks...sufficient time for campaigns to re-tool, re-fund, re-message and try to parlay New Hampshire into a stepping stone to the next round that came several weeks later. This year it's only hours between Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina has been moved up as well. This has turned into a reality show...as body fall off the obstacles. By Valentines Day we'll have our winners. Right during sweeps month. Hell, who needs writers.

Oh, wait - not clever at all.
All of you were all falling over yourselves to congratulate NH on being the only state to turn blue in 2006.
Things have changed here. They continue to change. Anyone who pretends otherwise is just spreading ignorance, and engaging in a peculiar attempt at fearmongering.
