Remember this tune from the late 50's early 60's and the TV show?
Who is the tall, dark stranger there? Maverick is his name. Riding the trail to who-knows-where. Luck is his companion. Gambling is his game. Wild as a wind in Oregon, Blowing up the canyon. Easier to tame.
River boat, ring your bell! Fare thee well, Annabelle. Luck is the lady that he loves the best. Traveling 'round New Orleans, Living on jacks and queens. Maverick is the legend of the West
***************************************************************
Yeah...not quite.

1. My wife (a Democrat) is still fond of "Maverick" McCain |
|
And no matter what I say to try to snap her out of it, nothing works.
No nasty comments, please. I'm still working on it. :)

6. He "thinks for himself," etc |
|
Not afraid to contradict the party line, willing to take a stand on principle, war hero, etc.
I may try showing her some of the huggy-kissy pictures with Bush. That might help a bit. Tonight I told her about the "100 years in Iraq" and "Bomb Iran" singing debacle, and it did seem to make a dent.

ya might want to tell her that McCain wants to stay in Iraq forever, hence an upcoming draft.

my wife, who won't vote for a Rethug, still talks about the time McCain jumped out of that flaming plane - was very impressed by that. I say nothing...I'm not gonna get into one of those arguments about 'bravery', since I never served in the armed forces.

12. There's no doubt he's a legitimate war hero |
|
But that doesn't qualify him to lead the country. The "swift boating" of Kerry only worked because so many people thought being a war hero was deeply relevant. It's very honorable, but it has little to do with fitness to be President. I don't doubt he jumps out of flaming planes and so forth. Very nice, but his policies are crapola and he's thrown away any "maverick" credibility he might have once had by becoming a rubber stamp for Bush. That is what matters.
Hehe... too bad I'm telling DU instead of her, eh? :p

13. Reminds me of the line: |

"I'm the man of the house and I'm the boss around here...until you get home." and I'm the man of the house and I can have sex anytime you want..."
He is a war hero. So was my Dad, Purple Heart in the Big One...wounded twice, and he was not exactly qualified to be Dog Catcher...

4. Can he be beaten with a press corps so blatantly in love with him ? |
|
It's a legitimate question. Even people who aren't for McCain preface their opinion with "John McCain is a hero" or "John McCain is a great American" yadda yadda yadda. This mythology about St. McCain has sunk into the consciousness of the average voter.

you name it. he who signs their paychecks say so. No matter who the Democratic candidate turns out to be , this will be the challenge. harder than Gore and Kerry had it as the level got seven floors into the gutter since the last one.

9. McCain's popularity is a testament of the power of suggestion of MSM |
|
He was never a maverick - or anything more than he is now - a pathetic gasbag, a corrupt member of the Keating 5...I am just happy I lived long enough to see DU get wise to this fact.
