Very strange, very loud thunder and lightening just north of Providence, RI this morning |

We had a thunderstorm about 30 or so minutes ago. Lots of lightening and cracking thunder.
It isn't unheard of, but most certainly rare. Glad the 100 degree isn't following it though LOL

6. East end of Long island-- hearing it now. It's coming... |
|
across the Sound, but with this warm weather I'm not surprised we're getting thunderstorms.

8. I took the dog out about 40 minutes ago and I heard a noise |
|
that was so loud I was sure that something had exploded in a neighboring town. 30 minutes later it began to rain here. I think I was hearing the thunder from the storm but I have never heard thunder BEFORE it started to rain like I did this morning. The tone didn't sound like thunder at all. I came in and checked the news to see if they were reporting on an explosion!
Most bizarre thing.
The rain is beginning to pass now and even while it was over head here I only heard one clap of thunder and it still wasn't as haunting as the thunder I heard before the storm arrived.

It was the volume of the thunder that is weird today.

11. I agree it's the volume and the tone |
|
very different and the sound is traveling much farther than it would normally too.
