Legitimate question...How will Clinton and Obama supporters feel |
|
about their candidate, if they vote to pass the senate version of HR 1955? (assuming that it is much the same as the house version)
Would it alter your judgement of them in any way?

Democratic presidential hopeful Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) said that he believes the proposed Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act (H.R. 1955/S. 1959) is unconstitutional.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters in New York City Nov. 29, Kucinich took several questions from the audience, including my question on why he voted against the bill. Kucinich was one of only six representatives to oppose the bill, which passed the House 404-6 on Oct. 23.
“If you understand what his bill does, it really sets the stage for further criminalization of protest,” Kucinich said. “This is the way our democracy little, by little, by little, is being stripped away from us. This bill, I believe, is a clear violation of the first amendment.”
Kucinich referred to the bill as the “thought crime bill,” when he explained in a joking fashion that, “We have freedom of speech. Thoughts, sometimes, proceed speech. There is usually a unity in thought, word and deed.”

2. Yup. There's ol' Dennis again, speaking truth to the "insiders." How dare he? |

3. Yes. That one. It seems the cat has every one's tongue on this issue. |

I can't follow everything that Clinton and Obama or Edwards say on the campaign trail, but I haven't heard any of the three speak on the issue of this bill, and the potential for severely curtailing and possibly crushing democracy, should this bill pass both houses and is signed into law. Edwards can't vote on it, but I haven't heard him discuss this topic either.
We know exactly where Dennis stands on this issue, being just one of six house members to vote against the passage of this bill. It seems to me that true leaders don't sidestep important issues. They tackle them head on. I am willing to wager that the top three candidates have been advised to duck for cover at the mere mention of this bombshell. The truth of it is that they should be leading the charge against passage of this bill, if they are really for the people of this country, as they claim to be. I would also wager that they will take the safe way out and find an excuse not to vote, should the senate version come to a vote in the near future. Would that be what progressive supporters want for their choice for president? To either say nothing about the bill and not vote, or say nothing, but then vote for it?

7. Very interesting. This thread's been up for a half hour, and not one |
|
response by any Clinton, Obama or Edwards supporter. Over a hundred thread views, but not one comment. Funny, because this is a real issue that we have to deal with people. I would really like to know what their supporters here on this progressive site would do, in such a case.
