Lynching is still happening in South Carolina 2008.

This is 2008 not 1908 right? I can't believe that the national media has not picked up on this. KO should at least mention it.
Maybe it's because there is an election going on and they don't want SC to look like the backward state that it is.
Before you flame me, I was born and raised 15 miles from where John Edwards was born and worked in a textile mill as a teenager just as he did.:dem:

1. Just FYI
South Carolina legally defines lynching as a mob attack against an individual where the victim survives.

2. You got any further news on that story other? That article doesn't even
say that it was determined that there was a 'lynching'. There was a black eye and an injured forehead. Nothing about rope, neck injuries, or anything else.

Not to diminish the seriousness of this incident, but I would like to see an update on this story.

5. You should have posted that along with the first thread. Because not
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 01:54 PM by acmavm
only would it have cleared up the confusion of why you used the work lynching, it would have also made it perfectly plain that there was no lynching.

And those people who were injured aren't being prosecuted. So what the hell was the point of your example?

edit: To add that there is, if your reference is true, obviously a shitload of corruption and a lot of bigoted racial injustice going on down there in SC. But your story sure as hell ain't an example of that. Find a case where the miscarriage of justice did happen, not some half-assed story like the one you used. There should be outrage at this law being used against anyone under the circumstances that you posted. But the story you used didn't help make your point.

19. No lynching according to the definition YOU use.
Lynching according to the definition the state of SC adheres to.

29. Not hardly. You can twist and spin and obsfucate all you want. But in
believing that if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then it's probably a duck just puts me in the same boat as most of the rest of the world.

Squawk all you want. At this point you're just a clown to me.

17. I'm from Anderson S.C and I am not racist. I was in High School
in the 60's, when African Americans had to go thought the back door of some businesses. I saw separate water fountains around my county. I hated these things. Thank God I had parents that were Democrats. I protested in my own way when MLK was marching.
I would do things like sit in the balcony of the movie theater where the blacks were made to sit. Only whites were allowed to sit
on the same level as the screen. I had lots of African American friends then. :dem:

are quite progressive and active in social justice issues. They are certainly in the minority, but let's not paint with too broad a brush.

Edited to add: They are also over 60 years old.

16. I do not intend to paint with a broad brush.
I was born their. I still have immediate relatives their. You are correct. Your relatives are in the minority. They should also fear for their lives if they ever become elderly and rely on the system in SC to help them. People in the majority that believe in a fascist religious state will take advantage of a progressive caught in an unfortunately weak social situation. That is also a free speech issue as to not speak of your beliefs because of retaliation. Right wing fascists think that violence is the answer to literally everything. Hence you have a lynching in Anderson, South Carolina in 2008. Fascism is what my relatives died trying to destroy in WWII. Every true patriotic American should be willing to destroy fascism as our forefathers did. :dem:

14. Notice how a 16 year old BLACK GIRL is called a woman.
But if it was a white chick, we all know that'd it be a "girl" or at least a teenager.

Just think about what they called Natalie Holloway, who was of legal age when she disappeared. They called her a "girl."

21. I agree. There is still a bias that even comes out through
the journalism in SC. It is like the tip of the iceberg of the majority racism that is still prevalent. It's a prejudice against women and minorities. SC was the first state to suceed from the Union and Abbeville, just 25 miles from Anderson, was the place that
Jefferson surrendered to Grant. :dem:

31. I must have missed something in the article.
I didn't see where anybody's race was mentioned. Of any of the people involved.

"Lynch" here apparently doesn't have any racial implication.
