CNN anchor jokes about 'Reverse Oreo' with black co-host.
This afternoon, CNN "Open House" host Gerri Willis came by CNN Newsroom to discuss the economy. Willis joked with anchor Kyra Phillips that if she could predict the stock market, she and Phillips could run off to an island, prompting Phillips' co-anchor, Don Lemon, to ask not to be left out of the girls' getaway. This resulted in the following exchange:

Gerri: Alright Don, you come too.
Kyra: We could bring him along with the girls.
Gerri: Come on!
Kyra: He's paying! Thanks, Gerri.
Don: A little sandwich!
Kyra: Ooh!
Gerri: Whoa, I have to go now!
Kyra: Yeah, good time. You don't want to talk about the reverse oreo!

Willis was visibly embarrassed by Phillips' joke, though Lemon seemed to enjoy it, laughing out loud and announcing, "Oh, she said it! I'm glad she said it."

Edward R Murrow, Huntley & Brinkley, Walter Cronkite...and now Kyra Phillips. Giants of the Broadcast Industry.

1. The problem is that this little singles bar banter and joking
is just not appropriate for the news desk.

Not to mention the whole racial aspect of it. Just the idea of making a big pile of money and romping off to the islands to engage in a threesome is just weird. Like the lack of money is the main factor in prohibiting this behavior. Weird.

Good night and good luck.

Not "Good bite and good lick".

4. Hypersensitivity - Kent Ninomiya
If you watch this exchange (you can find it easily on the internet) you will see that it's innocent banter. No one there was offended. However the hypersensitive among us could make this out to be racial insensitivity, sexual insensitivity or both. I would not be surprised if there are calls for suspensions. That seems to be in vogue these days. Kent Ninomiya

8. Hopefully Her Contract Is Up Soon...
Just like Daryn Kagan and some of the other bobble heads...they either want more money or stop looking "sexy" and their off to working the 10pm news in Omaha.

I used to watch CNN almost 24/7...now I can barely stand it for a few minutes at a time. Phillips constantly tries to be "cute"...and injects her opinions like some high school kid...from having crushes on guys in uniform to boasting about how her parents all but saved San Diego from being roasted to forgetting to take her mike off when she want to the can (I'm still convinced she was purposely punked on that one).

9. Funny, but I knew who you were talking about....
...even before I opened the thread.

Refresh my memory: Was it also she who "accidentally" left her mike on and dissed a relative while talking to a producer, the contents of which were then broadcast?

10. I notice they like to treat the anchor chairs like a lounge.
They do alot of yukking it up and some of it is really inappropriate. The comment you point out is really out of line.

What also bugs me is when they make a story all about them. Kyra Phillips did it twice recently....once when covering the recent fires in California and I believe the other was in Iraq. She went on and on about how this is why she studied journalism in school and she likes covering this kind of thing etc etc etc. Give me a break. Just tell me the damn story in an unbiased way and leave the cutesy banter and self-aggrandizing commentary out of it.
