just had to say this. Go little Prius go. |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 10:33 PM by greenman3610
I've posted here before about how much I love my Prius, but last week it went through the ultimate test. I had to drive 90 miles to Lansing and back in the teeth of the worst blizzard in memory. The road crews had given up by the time we hit the road home, and it was one lane of blowing snow at 1:30 in the morning. when I exited for gas, I had to bust thru a 2 foot snow bank the plows had left behind. By the time we got to my hometown, we were blasting thru snowbanks high enough to burst over the windshield and temporarily blind us. I've never seen anything like it, and I've lived in Michigan all my life, including 15 years on emergency crews. I couldn't stop because I knew that would be the end. But little Prius just kept truckin' and trackin - I'm confident now that I can take this little baby anywhere.

3. Front wheel drives will do a lot if you use the stupid pedal and float them into curves... |
|
In the snow big moe is your best friend...you just have to be careful not to over drive the car.

4. Not the issue with the Prius--- torque isses and very poor tires |
|
from the factory combine to make for very poor performance on ice/snow. But, I'm betting the OP has changed out the tires, which has made a tremendous difference for most everyone I know with a Prius...

and, this year, a lot of snow -- over two feet still lying on the flat. The Prius comes up our long, very steep drive with no trouble.

15. On the factory tires? |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 11:08 PM by hlthe2b
I'm guessing no.... Just google Prius and traction in snow... It is a well known issue, but is readily solved once you get rid of the original factory tires.

8. I'm impressed by the power they have going up hills... |
|
I noticed one a couple of days ago on my way to work. There is one unusually steep hill after a stop light and the little Prius was moving out in front of almost everyone on the road. :-)

I know a few folks who have Priuses/Pri-i? and they seem to like them.
My brother just bought a Ford SUV type hybrid. It had an amazing amount of gadgets - it was kind of cool to see it transfer from gas to battery on the dash indicator.

24. Hmmm, once again someone is confusing weather with climate |
|
For example, it's currently -10F outside, and we've had quite the cold snap this winter here in Minnesota. However, we're still slightly warmer than average because of several record WARM snaps in Dec. and Jan. In an average winter, we should see -25F here, but we've been lucky to hit -15F. Last winter we barely hit that.
Oh, and did you notice that HALF the damn Arctic ice sheet melted in 2007, creating the long-sought Northwest Passage to Asia that explorers have been looking for for the past 400 years?

25. Hi there, just in case you are sincere, climate change is not that simple. |
|
Global warming does not mean that we would have warmer weather overall, as climate models show severe decreases in winter temps in many areas. Catastrophic in some cases, esp. with oil so costly now. If you think the continental US is bad now, check Europe when the Gulf Stream slows or stops, God forbid.
And welcome to DU.
