OK DUers this is the Bush playbook for the 2008 elections |
|
Bushco plan to use the Guantanamo trial for the 2008 election campaign. Nothing they do is without a political motive. I'm watched the press conference at the Pentagon now and I will not be played. They're going to hang some detainees to win some votes. :puke: :puke:
Three great questions asked at the press conference: Why have you decided to try them together? Why are you doing it right now? Will there be television?
I smell a rat.

7. Yep. They are towing into very dangerous waters. |
|
I don't see it happening within a years. Lawsuits and appeals will hold it up for a very long time.

will die again before November. Of course Benazir Bhutto's tape with David Frost will spread like wildfire. :D

5. The legality of military execution trials should drag it out for more than a year. |
|
I think the military will have to be very careful with this.
They may try them, but the evidence was gained through coercion and torture.
And they want to execute, with that evidence, from a military court. I can't see it happening within chimpy's term.

9. I would agree, except these are not normal times... |
|
And Chimpy has far too much power. Unless there are some in the military who are strong-willed and protected enough to stand up to the Chimperor, anything goes.
We can no longer judge things on what has happened in the past, or what "should" be.

11. When the CIA admitted to tortue last week, the International Community |
|
spoke up. They were called torturers and War Criminals by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the UN Human Rights Organization.
The military courts are not going to want to face the possible consequences. This isn't a secret, and I don't see that hanging 6 old terrorists in a shady way will bring chimpy or pukes into favor.
It will enrage many inside and outside this country if it is done questionably.

16. I would agree, except... |

BushCo doesn't give an airborne rodent's derriere what the world thinks, or he wouldn't have so thoroughly ruined our reputation. The military reports to their Commander in Chief... guess who.

I agree... This should help McCain a great deal, since he seems to be the front-runner AND the biggest whiner about "The Terrorists" who hate us for our freedoms...
So, one or two guys are going to be tried... and how many are being held without reason? That's the real question.

8. Multiple rats. It not only is being done for political theatre right now |
|
but the trap is being set for the next Dem president. One of many traps to be set. The trap is that these trials will likely be wrapping up a few months after they take office. When faced with detainees who have been tortured into confessing facing hanging what will they do? If they decide not to go forward they look like they are pardoning terrorists, if they let them go forward they look like hypocrites to their base.

10. Absolutely they will try to get |
|
all the mileage they can squeeze out of it for McCain. If they can do the executions just before the election you know it will be a shot in the arm to energize the base.

And no matter who they hang (check under the hoods), the ultraright will eat it up and demand more. And think that it's a good sign, in the "war against terror".
