1. You go, California! The genie is out of the bottle. |
|
Pot is well on its way to de facto legalization in America's most populous state.
There's no going back.

7. The feds have managed to shut down about 10% of dispensaries |
|
...in the state in the past couple of years. There are hundreds of them all over the state, although it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Some have banned dispensaries, but then delivery services pop up.
The new US Attorney for Northern California, Mr. Russoniello, is hinting that he has better things to do than target dispensaries.
Both Democratic candidates have said they would end the raids on the dispensaries.
The DEA's anti-medical marijuana campaign in California is on its last legs. They know they only have a few months.

I kinda hate Utah anyway. I'm only sorta kidding. There are a lot of things I like about California.

14. Northern California seems especially heavenly |
|
I had a county supervisor in Mendocino tell me that 2/3 of the county economy is dependent on weed. He also complained that "legitimate businesses" couldn't find workers because everybody is making $30 an hour trimming weed.
There are numerous medical offices that specialize in issuing medical marijuana recommendations (one could call them pill mills, I suppose), and the California law is written so broadly that virtually any pot-smoker with $150 for the pot doc can get a card. Then you just walk down to your local dispensary and buy your, ahem, medicine.
This is de facto personal legalization under the guise of medical marijuana. It may not be what California voters had in mind when they voted for Prop 215 back in 1996, but on the other hand, nobody seems to be complaining too loudly, either.
Oh, yeah: They also have lots of vinyards and redwooods and stuff up there.

8. Fortunately, there will be a nice police man to stop you from doing... |
|
...any of those things, including smoking pot.
I would wager that much of the antipathy toward police that you abhor is a direct result of the war on drugs. I know it is in my case.

10. Not so pleasant out here in Riverside Co |
|
Now Cathedral City is trying to shut them down. Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Desert hot Springs have already done so. We need a recall election.

13. Recall election--that's right... |
|
This is a battle that is now being waged at the county and municipal level. It is past time to target these recalcitrant local officials and hand them their walking papers. We only have to succeed once or twice and the rest of them will get the message.
