Texas Students March 7 Miles To Vote |
|
This is a really amazing story about students at a historically black university who are continually having voting problems. This is for the folks who have GD-P on total ignore, this story is too important to miss. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4675112&mesg_id=4675112

2. Waller County, about 50 miles west of Houston, has a long, racist history on this issue. |

Students at Prairie View A&M and have been fighting this problem for decades, as the old white guard in the community have consistently conspired to stop young black college students there from registering or voting.
If we had a real president and a real Justice Department, this could be ended by one aggressive US Attorney and a team of FBI agents.

How long this has been going on. I was reading more about it this morning after seeing it pop up on the news.

4. This is not a new problem |

in the county, it is quite wide spread around College towns and has been for decades. I bet most of these students use their original home address as their legal residence. If they use their home address as their stated legal residence, they should register in their home jurisdiction and vote via absentee ballot. If that is the case, they cannot register to vote in Waller County unless they are a legal resident of Waller County. Living in a University dorm does not entitle you to vote in that jurisdiction if it is not your legal residence in that jurisdiction. Now if a student's legal residence is Waller County and is denied the right to register or vote, then they have a case that is prosecutable in Federal Court.
