Solution to high gas prices!

25. 1/4 page flyers with exec salaries AND phone # of their reps in COngress/Senate

these can be handed out anytime a person goes to the gas station or anywhere else
cost is cheap at about 2 cents a piece

Do NOT leave them in a stack at the pump as that may be considered littering

Do NOT tape them to the pump as that may be defacing property

they can be posted at your local community message board (if rules permit it)

Carry the handbills with you where ever you go-pass stacks out to your friends to pass to their friends to pass out to the public at any public gathering

it is spring and will soon be summer, there are a number of places one can go to distribute flyers
when you are grocery shopping, at the movies, at a concert in the park, at your earth day festivals, at the company picnic, at the park
anywhere people are gathering

FED-UP with HIGH GAS PRIÇES?

Exxon-Mobile CEO Rex Tillerson makes $13.16 million

Chevron CEO David J. O'Reilly makes $34.61 million

ConocoPhillips CEO James Mulva makes $6.61 million

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation CEO James T. Hackett makes $19.65 million

Occidental Petroleum CEO Ray R Irani makes $54.40 million

Sunoco CEO John G Drosdick makes $12.49 million

CALL YOUR REP
Joe Blow-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Josephine Blow xxx-xxx-xxxx

maybe someone here can design a nice flyer w/a better title to print out

then people can add their local reps phone numbers before making additional copies

edited to change title on handbill

edited again to add what I posted on other thread
making a simple statement with a simple solution is about all people have time for these days

if people have energy and time they can also make a larger version and stand on the corner near the gas station
they can also call their local media and let them know when/where they will be protesting these insane prices

a child's art easel works great to tape a large poster with the info on it

but once again asking people to do something drops like a lead balloon
check out the number of views and response to my (this) separate thread...

many people will bitch to each other about the deplorable state of things, but are not willing to take a little time to contact the people (legislators) that can make a change

1. How about adding the obscene profits the oil companies made
over the past few years?

2. HELL YEAH!
I was thinking if the flyer showed what gas taxes paid for, in contrast to what gas prices are paying (CEO's salaries)

Maybe start with a picture of the bridge that fell in Minneapolis and then pics of local bridges that haven't yet fallen.

3. Oh, and we have to put something in there...
...about how we don't need to damage Alaska to start drilling to lower gas prices, since the CEO's are making so much money.

5. remember KISS-keep it simple stupid-to be effective only one thought/action per handbill
Edited on Thu May-01-08 08:59 AM by fed-up
I have a huge problem with gathering too much information about issues and then overwhelming those I am educating

for any campaign to be effective it has to has a simple formula-one statement-one action

pretend the public has the attention span of a pre-schooler
(note-this is something the pukes have mastered)

edited to add-those are good ideas, maybe one theme a month or week until gas prices are lowered

the message has to be able to be conveyed in 15-30 seconds or less

and has to be repeated ad naseum (a pre-schooler must be told something 2,000 times before it sticks-something I learned in my early childhood education classes years ago)

I'm printing these out and taking a few copies to work.

I'm keeping these in the backseat of my car.
I'll post one on every bulletin board I find.

Thank you!

13. What you are suggesting...
Will accomplish nothing. So I agree with your vote.

We need to look for a solution to the problem of our depnedency on oil.

15. Oh, by the way, what does the CEO of Citgo pull down?
I didn't see his/her name listed.

Also, we need to be careful on putting Occidental Oil out there. Right or wrong (wrong!), most people associate that company with Al Gore and his father.

17. I forgot Citgo...
...but, according to Wikipedia, they were bought by Occidental

And too bad if people associate it with Al Gore and his father. No need to pretend the link doesn't exist; that's something he's going to have to deal with.

18. And another association that may work, or not,
is people associate Citgo with Hugo Chavez.

Al Gore and Hugo Chavez get the people of DU worked up. Need to be careful if these two are thrown into this effort.

Not criticizing, just pointing out what I have seen.

21. The enemy is high gas prices.
People may allow themselves to get derailed to their heart's content.

But, while they draw diagrams linking Al Gore to Hugo Chavez to Fidel Castro to Satan, they're still paying the obscene salaries of CEOs who are hiding from them.

If they don't pay taxes during the summer, the CEOs make millions.

If they do pay taxes during the summer, the CEOs will still make millions, but there will also be money kept locally for roads and such.

If they call their congressperson, they can demand the oil companies pay their fair share and keep from drilling in ANWR.

So many things to do, let's try one of them.

25. Wrong argument.
Regardless of what form of energy is used, the CEOs will be raking in the dough.

Whether it's ethanol, solar, wind, etc. Some slick mofo is going to screw as many as they can for as long as they can.

Americans need to understand that taxes are not the enemy.

Once that happens, then other issues can be addressed.

And before we can get that far, they have to know why their gas prices are so high.

28. You are upset at the salaries
They are going to get paid those salaries no matter what we do or say. Unless you are a shareholder, who has a say in the executive compensation, all the paper in the world isn't going to change their mind.

This is no different than the plans to not buy gas for one day.

I did have one more thing to say after all.

30. You are making a connection about...
high gas prices to the salaries of the big oil execs. and you want to get that message out by flyer at the gas pump, or some other means.

So yes, I am odd. Been called worse, doesn't bother me.

But that does not address that we need to change our dependency away from oil as a people.
