Don't piss off the gods!
Edited on Thu May-01-08 12:01 PM by happydreams
Winston Smith, the main character in Orwell's "1984" committed "thought crime" by questioning the word of Big Brother. We are near that same stage in the US now. People in the US are exhibiting many of the characteristics of the people Orwell depicted: subservient, self-centered, nasty, sniveling, groveling--and don't even know it--assholes.
I was watching the PBS series "Carrier" about the Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz. Those people on that ship were veritable automatons, indoctrinated with state sponsored religion and "we can do no wrong" attitude that is easily converted into perverse violence like that of Abu Ghraib. When the failure of Iraq becomes undeniable even to these people then WATCH OUT!!
They will be looking for scapegoats and that means anybody who thinks and speaks out about the truth. The process of eliminating thinking people is now underway in the US: "no fly lists" that curtail 1st amendment rights without due process, surveillance and harassment of citizen's--I have personally been experiencing this for years, censorship using mafia tactics of coercion are just a few of these methods.

Socrates was one year a famous philosopher and veteran adored by most Greeks and the next forced to commit suicide for his truth telling about the disastrous Peloponnesian War (Athens "Vietnam"). This is what happens to a people when they allow their country to be taken over by thugs. Their frustration turns to antipathy for the easiest targets. The Athenians thought they lost the war with Sparta because the gods were angry at them for impiety; Socrates science was to much for the idiots so they forced him to take poison, after a trial of course.

It's very easy to get people to join in this process of violence; it has been shown in study after study (See "Milgram")that human beings are easily taught to do the most heinous things if they are told they are doing it for the preservation of something higher. In regards to "Carrier" I was simply amazed at how a whole generation--college educated and otherwise--that have come of age in the Post-Vietnam Era could have such a large segment of its population turn out to be so utterly full of shit. The stupid bastards learned no fucking thing from Vietnam. They are docile, easily manipulated by those pandering to their vanities, nasty little turds. They are into medals, awards, having kids (to prove they are adults) etc. and don't give a shit about the fact that they are murdering innocent people. There deference to authority is mind blowing. Some of the officers on the Nimitz spoke contemptuously about people who question the wisdom of getting into the Iraq War. These pathetic assholes (officers) have college degrees and after all that has been shown about the fact that the Iraq war is ALL about oil and corporate power they still talk this shit!!

If Vietnam should have taught the US anything it was to: QUESTION AUTHORITY!!!

The exact opposite is what was learned. What happened?? Do these idiots think that the US lost in Vietnam because there wasn't enough deference to authority??? There has never been a more wimpish, ignorant, religiously indoctrinated, self-absorbed generation of Americans in the history of this country. They are incapable of learning and growing because they are incapable of self-criticism. The noise of Religion is the way they avoid the quiet necessary for self-criticism. They honestly believe that if they just pray hard, kiss their superiors ass enough, and watch movies about how great America is that everything will be OK.

I think the vast majority of the US citizens deserve what is happening to them. They have had ample time to wake the fuck up and have decided not to. Now they will be looking for those who have pissed off God and caused us to lose Iraq.

I don't even know why I write this shit anymore???

4. I HATE authority
Edited on Thu May-01-08 07:22 PM by undergroundpanther
I mistrust it in any form and question it's existence. For ultimately authority is just a symbol, an empty sound. It only has meaning if you believe in it and power if give your power over to the authoritarian to use it against you.

Authoritarian personalities SUCK, like psychopaths socialized or not,and narcissists, suck.

It is because these kinds of people are assholes to their core. It's in their personality type. This personality type thinks in their own minds they are always right, the best, or entitled or whatever ego trip they want is. Authoritariansare mean, petty, stupid, shallow, intolerant of difference and manipulating bullies and so I avoid them if I can.

Authoritarians truly disgust me, in dealing with these abusive jerks I find if I speak their language back at them(language of domination)they will treat me differently than when I speak to them as if they had the capacity for empathy. I know to my core they have no power or privilege over me or anyone else and they never will. That's the big secret. I strive to make their will to domination implode into a very ugly situation that exposes exactly what they are.The bully types take awhile to understand that I don't bow down ~ Ever.

Oh yes I do piss off the gods! I will piss on them too.. Defy all their rules that are pointless and unnecessary, Bombard them with the hated word WHY? .I deface their stupid symbols and laugh, I culture jam the uniforms of authority and spit upon their snide sniveling mindless sycophants.

Yeah I raise hell because I love making a bully remember why he is nothing but a waste of skin, when he plays the "authority card" and calls his posse to defend his worthless ass..from this one kitty who happens to like popping swollen egos with a well placed swipe of proverbial claw..If they ever get around to killing me I will die laughing, knowing they didn't ever get to dominate me, the one thing they'd want from me.. to call themselves victor.
Authority's misery, is my joy.

5. I wish I had seen
'Carrier.' Those on the carrier probably weren't alive for Vietnam. They experienced a different America of 'Don't Question.' The military makes it easy for them...it tells them when to get up in the morning, when to eat, when to sleep, when to bathe....everything. They are robotic sheep....they are stripped of individuality and basically turned into murderers.

I stay away from the enlisted...because I love my freedom and they just don't know quite how to handle it. America is going to get its comeuppance. I hope I escape most of it somehow.

9. I spent two years on an aircraft carrier during the 'Nam period.
I spent 2 years on a carrier during the Nam period. I never saw anything remotely like the indoctrination of these kids in "Carrier".
There were "Bible thumpers", but they were not in control the way they are in "Carrier". One of these thumpers, a shop supervisor, put me in his cross hairs for termination (more like demotion) when he realized my views on religion (and everything else) weren't in line with his. It was quite a fight (not physical). What set it off was One day he tried to "save me".
I said: "Fuck That! I want to raise some HELL when we hit Naples!" Women, wine, pizza and song!" Then I started asking the guys in the shop who had been to Naples before where the best bars and shit were. The shop we were working in roared with laughter and the thumper got very pissed. I had, albeit unconventionally, challenged his authority. This guy was a real :puke:. Always had spit-shined shoes and a shiny little chevron on his lapel as well as his hat.

He accused me of something I didn't do (missing duty) and filed a report which required command to met out punishment. And I was grounded on the ship for a number of port calls. This was very serious punishment when so much depends on getting a break from the grueling routine on the ship. Plus it was entered on my otherwise clean record. I proved later that I had never missed duty, but, nevertheless the punishment was carried out. That is the way in the military. Saving face is more important than justice.

I was never so pissed in my life. I goddamn near brained his ass at an opportune moment, but then I started, probably for the first time in my life, to think.

This incident sparked creative juices I didn't know I had and I learned how to deal with other assholes in my life.

I simply fucked this guys life all up. I sabotaged his work (electronics); changed his time and place on the duty roster causing him to miss duty, I even shit canned his mail from his lovy-dovy wife (A whiny phony Southern Bell that I didn't like anyway) leading him to worry about his relationship with her when "she stopped writing".

One day I overheard him talking to another guy in the shop: "She said she's been writing??" he complained. :applause:

In an otherwise boring environment his demise was a nice distraction. I became very creative in messing with him as I saw the bastard start sweating. He was reprimanded, then demoted from the shop supervisor role and eventually booted out of the shop--a cozy job below decks--and sent back on "the Line" (the Flight deck). The Flight deck is one dangerous place, hot, noisy, and unpredictable. I guy on the ship I knew was killed there, and I almost bought it a few times when I worked there. Man, was I relieved when this thumper was gone.

If you watch "Carrier" none of this kind of thing, which is commonplace in the military, is shown. "Carrier" is pure propaganda that doesn't reveal the dark side of living in such an environment. A person that outranks you, as this thumper did me, can flat out fuck your life up.

There were a couple of other occasions where I was nearly a victim of idiot--assholes who outranked me and there was nothing I could do about it. In one case I nearly got caught up in a smuggling operation that I had not a clue about. I helped load the shit on an aircraft thinking is was legit cargo. This operation resulted in a shop mate of mine going to prison--a patsy. The military is like being in prison only without its protections.

I once took a course in college which included a segment on "dealing with problem people in the work place". I got an A for this story, plus my professor laughed his ass off.

6. I believe this is because fear induces
Edited on Thu May-01-08 07:24 PM by Uncle Joe
the fight or flight instinct overcoming reason for at least a limited period of time. As social animals, humans are either emotionally part of the group or not, when you buck that trend with reason, even when correct, you're viewed with suspicion.

I believe this is why Cheney/Bush stoke fear for all it's worth, even when they fail as they did during 9/11, it works for them.

I do make a slight exception for the military as opposed to the civilian world, the military isn't a democracy and to some degree they must be brain washed or they might never rush in to a life threatening situation when ordered to do so.

The civilian world on the other hand has a greater stake in the process of reason and as the top leadership is civilian, I believe it imperative for the people to receive truthful information from their news sources in order to make the wisest decisions when it comes to choosing their leaders and making the grave decisions as to whether they're justified in using the sword of the military or not.

I believe the greatest danger facing our democratic republic isn't from the military so much as the propaganda being put out by our civilian corporate media. When the people are misinformed, they make poor decisions.

Thanks for the thread, happydreams.

7. I recently took a week-long vacation to Southeast Arizona, to the small, conservative town...
Edited on Thu May-01-08 07:31 PM by Raster
...I grew up in. I went to visit my life-long friend that still lives there. I was wearing an "IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY" t-shirt. My friend hurriedly and brusquely told me he did NOT want to discuss my shirt or politics. I asked, rather incredulously, if he was pro cheney*/bush*. His response: "well yes, there's all kinds of people out there just waiting to attack us." And then he took a big, long drink of his kool-aid.

10. Yes it is.
"War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

12. Here's a pitiful true story
last fall, had to call in a roofer.
Good ole boy shows up, came highly recommended, he's somewhere in the neighborhood of mid-50's, gun rack in his big ole pickup, real traditional 'bama guy. Scampers up the ladder, patches the roof, does a good job, and we chat a bit when he comes down, in true Southern style.
Ya know what he tells me?
He is 'scared" of the terrorists, that they might come over here and attack us.
I look close at him, the guy is wild eyes and nervous and truly scared.
Says he ain't been sleeping real good since 9-11.

Me? I hate heights, would prolly fall over if I were 2 inches taller, and I knew Bush was full of shit first time he opened his mouth.
It's my governemnt that keeps me awake at night.

But my roofer is seriously afraid of bin Laden...in Iraq.

Still shaking my head on that one.
