'Miracle Man' Marine dies
BY MATTHEW CHAYES

1:56 PM EDT, May 1, 2008

At the military hospital where he was being treated for burns covering more
than 97 percent of his body, Sgt. Merlin German was known as the "Miracle
Man," according to news reports.

When German, of Manhattan, suffered major injuries in 2005 from a roadside
bomb that exploded in Iraq's Al Anbar province, doctors gave him virtually
no chance of surviving, the San Antonio Express-News reported. But he seemed

3. So very sad.
An amazing story, though. I doubt I could have lived through those injuries, nor would I have had the inner strength to want to.

14. some burn pain never stops.
I've seen it too often in my profession. But even worse, the mental changes from the non-stop pain, itching, and worse.

I am an atheist, but still, GOD DAMN BUSH & CHENEY.

16. Thanks
I added those links to Zeitlangers.

What a great kid. Why, why, why aren't we seeing stories like his on the news? Do the media really think they would not get ratings from a human interest story describing his t-shirts, his mentoring other wounded soldiers, his campaign for burned kids? Local papers carry these stories - they are there for the taking. Why in the hell does MSNBC do prison stories every frigging night? Do they really make more money broadcasting that shit than they would by introducing Merlin to the public?

I find myself wanting to quote Rev. Wright a lot lately.

17. You're welcome.
I hear ya on quoting the Rev., I can't help but feel the same way sometimes.

Merlin really sounded exceptional, even with enduring so much himself, his desire to help others just amazes me.

13. Here's the photo I used on Zeitlangers

It was on a right wing blog site back in 2006:

Merlin German poses with actress Elisabeth Rohm at a Brooke Army Medical Center holiday ball on December 8, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas. German burned 97% of his body after an improvised explosive device hit his convoy during a tour in Iraq. (Ben Sklar/Getty Images)

I don't know who actress Elizabeth Rohm is, but I love her.

She also dated Dan Abrams for a lengthy bit of time.

She is one of my favorite actresses.

18. you roused my curiosity
I googled her - yes, I recognize her from other pictures - I liked her in that role - she had a kind of mischievous air like she didn't take anything all that seriously - sure didn't recognize her in this pic though - maybe its the hairdo.

Anyway, good for her for being there.
