Poll question: POLL -> GWbush calls on Congress to send him a gas tax holiday bill for him to approve ASAP!
Poll Question - If GWbush asked Congress to send him a gas tax holiday bill for him to sign, would you support this effort?

Full disclosure - I support equal rights and am for universal citizenship - internation morality - I support amnesty for illegals and open, regulated borders. I opposed the immigration compromise simply because bush supported.

1. Hunter S. Thompson once referred to George W. Bush as "that treacherous

little freak."

Turns out, I'm REAL comfortable with that assessment.

5. I think he also once said
"I judge people by the way they voted in the 60's." or something like that. I was recently reading Doonesbury's homage to him (A series of Duke and Honey talking about the great man while Duke zones in and out, melts, grows little forhead ears, and shrinks to a pixie.

6. LOL!! Hunter S. Thompson left a deep mark on a lot of readers.
I'm one of 'em.

And on politics, he was top gun.

Ambassador Duke in the Doonesbury strip is about as good as political satire gets.

7. Gonz threatened to Kill GBT if he ever met him
When asked, GBT would always claim that he took the threat as sincere. (I wonder if they ever did get together and chill...)

8. I didn't know that. I knew he spoke some harsh words, but I didn't know
if they were Thompson-style compliments or actual threats.

9. I think that the exact words were
"If I ever meet him face to face, I will rip his fucking lungs out."

In the Doonesbury universe, Zonker was reading Duke's journal to (Uncle Duke's dealer and caretaker) Zeke Brenner, and Uncle Duke writes:(something like)
1:00am - Brenner brought me over some of his new acid to try. Hope its better then the last batch.
2:00am - That little thief ripped me off. Need to take 300 more mics to feel anyfghrl.
3:00am - Wrenn I nfid Zeke, I'm ognna rip ihs fnvcdih lungs out.

zeke brenner chuckles, and says "He almost did, too."

So it was not only a compliment, but it was also a homage to the character that GBT had created. GBT's response (that he takes these threats very seriously) was yet another homage to Thompson.

2. No
I still find the idea ridiculous. 18 cents over, say, two months may save $30-50 dollars, maybe. But then when that tax gets slapped back on, the price of gas will still have risen. So say it's $3.68 when the holiday begins, and gas is $3.84 when it ends, then gas just became $4.02. In the end, the "savings" will just be paid later, and is avoiding the inevitable.

Then again, we could just find alternate fuel sources, or deal with the oil companies, which would be the best way to handle this.

3. I agree.
The tax holiday is a political stunt that will accomplish little.

A long term fix involves increasing the supply of energy or reducing demand.
