Britains "Big Brother" System of 4.2 million CCTV Cameras Prove to be a Complete Waste

Source: Political Lore

"Britain’s 4.2 million CCTV cameras have done little to deter criminals and has done significantly less to apprehend suspects.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Neville heads the Visual Images, Identifications and Detections Office (Viido) for Scotland Yard, and recently stated that the system is an utter “fiasco” and it has only helped to solve 3 percent of street crimes."

5. No. It cannot be a "complete waste",
undoubtedly, contractors made off with lots of contracted cash in return for equipment.

6. the cameras are a joke
I read an article in a newspaper from the UK on the train to London. The local politician from the CamdenTown section of London was complaining about all the cannabis being sold on the streets and how the new cameras would put an end to that. I got off the train, took the tube to the Camdentown stop, got out and scored some cannabis in 10 minutes. The dealers simply stand at the bottom of the poll with the camera and make sure the camera is looking the other way when they set up a deal. They showed me their wares under the damn camera by having their back to the camera, they told me to put my back to the camera, fold the 10 quid note really small, and then we did the old 2 handshake deal. What a joke those cameras were.

7. Who the hell wrote that article?
That's one of the most poorly written blog entries I've ever seen. Someone needs to give them a lesson on paragraph flow and the proper use of commas.

8. If 4.2 million cameras give 3% detection, do the math: 140 million cameras might just do the job if
the law of diminishing returns doesn't set in.

9. That was mildly insulting
It's spelled "Britain" and I should know, I bloody live here!

The cameras have been of use in some cases, they can often provide evidence in cases of street crime (such as drunken assault) but otherwise, the DCI is correct. They've been little use, cost a small fortune and have been used badly in any case.
