WASHINGTON, May 7 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush during his visit to Saudi Arabia next week will again ask OPEC to increase oil production, a senior White House official said on Wednesday as soaring oil prices hit new record highs.

Bush will visit Saudi Arabia on May 16 during a trip to the Middle East and will have a message for oil suppliers similar to his January trip.

"Suppliers of oil as they consider their pricing policies and as they consider their production targets need to take into account the economic health of the global community," White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley said.

The problem isn't supply, it is over-consumption.

Saudi Arabia probably cannot increase their production, they've peaked; and most other OPEC nations have also peaked or have contractual and domestic reasons why they will not or cannot ship more.

Besides, the U.S. gets most of its oil from Mexico and Canada ... so Shrub's Middle East trip is irrelevant to gasoline prices here anyway.

The truth is that we have reached the peak of cheap world petroleum production ... we're on the plateau and that explains prices and why we're in Iraq and may attack Iran.

The only thing we can do to help ourselves is to consume less oil ... that's about it.

Having two oilmen (I us the term loosely for Bush) run our country has left us with no energy policy except higher prices.
