*************Remembering and Honoring Sapphire Blue************
Edited on Sat May-10-08 05:24 PM by bobbolink
Sapphire Blue was, by turns, gentle, enraged, monumentally discouraged, happy... and all the other emotions that go with being a prophet.

And a prophet she was! Many of her threads sunk with hardly a whimper, because she took up an unpopular, unsexy cause. I would often receive PMs from her being angry and discouraged from the lack of responses, and even the mocking she would receive.

Sometimes they were noticed and supported, and that made her happy.

Her daughter reports :

I hope you will all take to heart one of her last requests, something she told us: "I know that you're going to miss me when I'm gone. Shed your tears, then open the door and look outside; there's a whole world that needs your attention, a whole world that needs fixing. Do whatever you can, in any way that you can, whenever you can. So many people need you desperately."

That desperation is ongoing, painful, and is ruining many lives.

There are so many DUers here who are remembering her today, and want to honor her.

If ALL the DUers who are responding to the two threads about her would carry through and "fix" what is wrong, much could be accomplished! I hope you will take her wish seriously.

Sapphire Blue subscribed to organizations that emailed alerts to Congressional actions, and posted them at DU to encourage people to call and email their Reps. That has been missing since she quit posting, and it would be very good if a few DUers would take on that task.

Sapphire Blue did excellent work in reporting articles of note on poverty, and getting people to take notice of issues they weren't aware of because they're not on the Dem or "progressive" agenda. We desperately need people to continue with this, and for Sapphire's friends to keep these articles and action alerts kicked and recommended to the Greatest Page.

This is the memorial that would make her happiest, and I hope it is taken to heart.

flowers emoticon...

and for you, Sapphire, :patriot:

9. Thank you, eleny. Prophets aren't always sweetly smiling. ^_^
They take their lumps, and not always gracefully.

The important thing is to honor her wishes.

Much better than flowers!

6. And Sapphire Blue was a DOER. A prophet, yes.. one who took people to task
Edited on Sat May-10-08 05:47 PM by bobbolink
for NOT doing.

BUT, her emphasis was on ACTION.

Wanna wager how many will actually take on this "memorial"?

edited to add: Thanks, Tahiti. This prophet business stings. :(
It helps to have a bit of encouragement from time to time. I appreciate it.

15. Bless her. Her good deeds will live on. A stone is thrown into a pool
and the ripples go on forever. Hers will too, all her goodness. May she RIP and my her family find solace. Listen hard, family. You will hear her. I promise you. Never dead and never parted. Transformed and close by. That is what you can count on now. I know I do myself. Peace and much love from Alaska.

16. I am so sad at the loss of such a prolific person
I was just browsing through my Inbox and found her passionate pleas to "K&R" for her many passions and causes.
Why should she HAVE to do that?
Because there are so many on DU that do not care enough to do it...they would rather enter the bazillionth argument about circumcision than to take time to read thoughtful and passionate posts.
I salute you Bobbolink...and I salute Sapphire for your passion about subjects that should be the cornerstone of what we do and who we are...yet they are not.

This is one of her posts from almost a year ago to the day. May our great warrior Rest in Peace. She was missed the days she didn't post here...and she will be eternally missed in my heart.

to actually follow what she requested of us???

I don't hear that, and that is the ONLY reason I started another thread.

That was her last message to me...with a link to her thread.
And so it was....our connection.
She put her heart into those in need, and asked us to help her, and we did...
What a beautiful soul...a very sad loss.

peace~

48. bobbolink~
My promise, I have, all always do the best that I can for those in need. I often give money I don't have, but I know I have a moral obligation to take care of others who have less. Also, am now working with my son's band to have a fundraiser for the local food pantry. I'm keeping my activism local, I can see direct results, and feel more unified with the community. I can always make the calls, etc., but since I'm a follower, not a leader like Sapphire Blue, need to be alerted as to how I can help out when it comes to the big picture. I promise, my life has been dedicated to the cause.
Also, time and volunteer work are priceless.
Don't worry, bobblink....I'll be there.
We all have that moral obligation.

peace~

46. bobbolink, thank you so much for posting this.
It really is what she would have wanted, for people to do act when witnessing injustice, not to turn their backs, but to ACT, to do whatever they can, whenever they can, in any way that they can, to change things for the better. That's what she taught us. And to her, poverty was the greatest injustice in this world.

Please, everyone, don't look away.
