Two Election Officials, Mississippi Governor Among Honorees

May 12, 2008 9:20 am US/Eastern

BOSTON (AP) ―

Two election officials will be honored at the John F. Kennedy Library for their
efforts to maintain the integrity of the vote in their respective states.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner

will each be presented a Profile in Courage Award Monday. The annual awards are named
for a 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning book authored by John F. Kennedy.

Bowen and Brunner both challenged the reliability of electronic voting systems.

A special Profile in Courage award will also be given to former Mississippi Gov. William
Winter for promoting racial equality and educational opportunity in his state.

The awards are administered by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, headed by the
former president's daughter, Caroline Kennedy.

Especially in Ohio, I think that took a lot of courage, against those criminals there!

3. The most admirable criterium IMO for PIC Awards is
that the recipient acted intrepidly at the risk of personal, professional, and/or political self-damage by that act. That's integrity. That's courage. That's humanity.

5. Yeah Debra Bowen our Sec. of State here in CA!!!!
She is fantastic and truly deserving....she ran against a Republican appointee of the Governator who thought computer voting machines with untested proprietary software was just grand.....

She has had the courage to tell those manufacturers and the county's that bought them that they just won't remain....

Debra Bowen....a profile in courage! :applause:
