I have no idea what the current standings are, as the paper apparently displays it as a graphic with no text to back it up. (I'm on dialup with old phone lines, so I block everything. DU is about the only site I can actually *use*.....)

5. We need to stop sending people to die for a piece of cloth, that was most likely made in China.
Our Constitution should be our National Symbol, not some flag or cobbled together song.

I don't get this sending our kids to die in some political war of expediency somewhere as protecting our freedom. How did Korea, Viet Nam, the first Gulf War, Iraq and all those other 'conflicts' do anything to protect our freedoms? Didn't we as a nation lose freedoms in each case?
It is well past time we get our priorities straight. Stop killing brown people in other countries for fun and profit. We can't even maintain our own country any more.

7. This old chestnut???
The economy is in the toilet... the housing market is in the toilet.... Iraq is in the toilet.... etc.... and the Green Bay paper wants to know about flag burning?

I think the online paper just wants to get some hits to make the advertisers happy.

13. What is it, then?
And even so, why should one be arrested for burning it?

17. I emailed a letter to them
The only American flag that should be protected from burning if any are American made.

But if you really want to be an American you have to respect the Constitution which the United States is based on. And remember American history.

It is in American history where the flag received it's godly status. Not exactly the status it should have when it states in the 10 Commandments "Thou shalt have no other gods before me".

It is American history that should guide us in recognizing that the American flag does not need a special law to protect it. Consider our National Anthem and what inspired Francis Scott Key to write it during the bombing of Ft Henry during the War of 1812.

"Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there." The flag was still there despite the attack. Nothing that protesters or other people do should make a difference. The flag will still be there someplace.

Rather than worry about protecting the flag with a law. Realize that it is protected in the hearts and minds of the American people. That is the only protection the flag needs.
