8. On a related note, this reminded me of last night. |
|
I had a patient who was talking to the nurse and saying how she hopes to survive until the election because we need to have the democrats in office. Naturally I couldn't be partisan at work, but me and the nurse were just like wow.

15. The same situation for my grandpa who is approaching 100 in September-- |
|
he says his goal is to vote in the next general election before he dies. He wants to see who makes it and is hoping for Obama. He really wants to see the Bush administration go and for change in government to take place...he just wants to be assured before he goes.

22. This is very bad news |
|
because malignant tumors don't have a good overall prognosis, not even with state of the art, aggressive treatment.
I hope they can buy him some good time, a lot of it.

30. There are a lot of interesting things in the pipeline |
|
to treat the various types of glioma, to shrink the tumor and relieve symptoms for long periods of time, and MGH is where he is likeliest to get into clinical trials of some of them.
The good news is that this is generally a painless way to go, although the loss of function as time goes on is incredibly distressing.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I do have a friend who's still alive (and has all his faculties) decades after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. I'll pray for the same outcome for Senator Kennedy, even though the odds aren't good.

six months after surgery but he was not in pain. He lost control of his senses after the first seizure. We were on vacation In Mexico when it happened.

The prognosis is not good. But people CAN survive. I know a woman who has survived 25+ years after a grade 4 (most aggressive) glioma.

When you have malignant and brain tumor in the same sentence, nothing is good. It seems like the only difference is how long you have to live.

Treatment was very rough - Surgery then months of chemo and radiation.
She's been cancer-free for about seven years now.

Sometimes survivable with surgery followed up by chemo and radiation. Sometimes they're not even operable because they have involved brain structures that can't be disturbed.

that it's not known whether this is the form that Kennedy has. The only announcement from his doctors has been glioma.

|
I'd say the ratio of well wishing to snark is about 3 to 1 so all in all good...remember these people aren't evil, just political opposition, still they are people with feelings too.

There is new research being done all the time. I will be donating today to:
