"World War 3" An article by GreenKid, grade 4 (written back in Jan. for his class newsletter)

Because of shortages of supplies I think we will break out in a third world war. I believe in this because of shortages in oil and gas. That's why gas prices sky rocket and never come down. We already see effects from local gas stations of high prices.

If we don't start using hybrids or other kinds of high mpg vehicles we'll break out in a catastrophic international war. To prevent that, every person with a driver's license should use not a low mpg concept car but at least a high mpg car that should at least be consumer friendly, consuming under 12 barrels of oil so prices can go down in local gas stations.

If you don't want to end up serving your country about to die by getting shot by an enemy sniper scout you should do as it says in the previous paragraphs. Oh! And the war could break out in as little as fifty years from now. You guys out there had better trade vehicles. Those of you with drivers' licenses had better get to work and you had better do it in the next fifty years. So hurry.

He's got 8 years or so to work on issues of style and composition, although he's certainly ahead of the pack already. Probably better than the average suburban newpaper "reporter".

I wrote a report on solar energy when I was in 4th grade -- in 1968. My first serious report, and I typed it, too. I ought to dig it up and scan it. I think I wrote that by the year 2000, half of our electricity would come from the Sun. (Insert jet-pack-and-monorail gag here.) I would note that my prediction was made a scant 40 years ago.

Yeah, time sure flies. Fruit flies, too.
