Did anyone see how they portrayed Joe Lieberman in "Recount"? |
|
He was a snake... a backstabbing snake. And tonight, he sits down in Sedona, plotting with those that would steal another four years from the American people.

I can't stand Lieberdweeb, but conjuring up "Israel" at every opportunity is throwing raw meat to the anti-Semites. (And yes, they DO exist.)
As I've often suggested to friends, "Israel" is kind of like "marriage" in that it has two distinct meanings. When people use the word, some of them think one thing, while the others think another. In the case of Israel, it means a Jewish homeland (necessitated either by Biblical scripture or by undeniable historical persecution) and it also means a strategic beachhead in the Middle East that was especially valuable with the rise of the Cold War and the increasing importance of Middle Eastern oil. Sorry to say, but if you know anything about post-WWII history of the US of A (where, arguably, anti-Semitism gained its strength and legitimacy in the early 20th century), U.S. politicians didn't really care about the "Jewish homeland" part (hence FDR's reluctance to allow European Jewish refugees asylum in the U.S.), but they really liked the Middle Eastern beachhead part, which was a matter of money and power not human rights and basic decency.

21. i know about anti-semities. |
|
what's scary is it seems to be on the rise again especially in parts of europe and even latin america.
i'm not jewish, but i am a proud Zionist. i'm 66 years old. my dad and my uncles fought in WWII. i became more familiar with the US policies during that time when i saw the series "the Jewish americans".
i have a difficult time understanding anti-semitism or racism. my great grandparents immigrated from germany in 1890. never, ever when i was growing up did any member of my family say anything remotely anti-semitic or racist. i guess i was fortunate. my husband had the opposite experience.

24. There's a third "Israel" too that's the scariest of them all. |
|
The "Israel" of the Dominionists, the 'Left Behind' crowd, who "know" because of their (ahistorical, ascriptural, 19th-century-dated) interpretation of the Book of Revelation, believe that Israel is important to the Apocalypse they so desperately want. Israel to them is a stepping stone to the glorious orgy of schadenfreude they live for, when they can watch the brutal destruction of everyone in the whole world except their fellow cult members.
They're anti-Semites to the bone--they believe that the Jews must be all converted to Christianity or slaughtered, in the end--but they're willing to pretend they have actual, real Israel's interests at heart for the time being.

for the stupidest, most moronic, most sycophantically slavish remark.
Can't vote for Obama without demonizing Hillary? Too scared to demonize Hillary alone, so you include her supportive husband?
Your comment was so mindlessly fact free, it really does win the prize.

and then, in actual footage, had him saying something entirely different about counting the votes of our troops - no matter if they didn't have a signature or a date on them....It was the patriotic thing to do...

When LieberLiar demanded 'any' military ballots (even w.out a signature or date) get counted, the Democratic boat was sunk. That's why LieberLiar did it.

16. He Was Supposed To "Innoculate" Clinton |
|
It was felt that he was a "moral" character...the anti-Clinton in the campaign who was supposed to help Gore move further away from any association with Clinton/Monicagate.

20. KharmaTrain speaks the truth on this |
|
Lieberman was insufferably pious, which was supposed to protect Gore against any (absurd) allegations that he was just as sex-obsessed as Clinton. Also, I have to admit (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) that the prospect of a Jewish running mate seemed ground-breaking (and encouraging) at the time. But I knew very little about Lieberman then, and I suspect most American voters knew even less.

27. His "Speech In The Well" |
|
This is the one he gave during the Monicagate fiasco claiming to be the "moral" Democrat who was speaking out against Clinton's hummer. At the time the corporate media ate what he did hook, line & sinker and somehow he became the "conscious" of the Senate. What it really was was Joe being Joe...opportunistic and pigheaded...insufferable would be a very good term.
Gore and especially Shrum were running scared of the "Clinton legacy"...the thing many of us still believe was his downfall (other than not contesting the entire state of Florida to start off with) and Liebermann, who had become a media darling, would give them good PR and keep the Monicagate and Clinton questions and references away. Yep...now wonder Joe not only felt sanctimonious as the Choice (my father used to say this dude suffered from Messiah complex...and that was in the 90s) but then felt by playing the good soldier that HE was now entitled to the next nomination. We saw how far that went.
Some of us Jews knew Joe's game for years. I joked he was the Senator from Likud...when joking could still be accetable...and thousands didn't die from his complicity.
Thank you for the kind words....
Cheers...

I wasn't paying much attention to him. (Although I have loathed him ever since he said, after the election, that morality requires religion). Since Gore was also DLC (yes?), I wonder if he understood Lieberman's neocon agenda was more important to him than electing a Democrat. Gore will probably never say exactly who put Lieberman's name forward and who pushed him, but I'm still curious.

29. Yep...Al's Still DLC To My Knoweldge |
|
Many supported Bill Bradley in '00 due to Gore's "establishment" and DLC connections. Also there were the allegations of the teas for big bucks and the Buddist Temple...also if Gore was an Alpha Male...the distortions started early and often, and sadly, Gore tried to fight them.
I'm Jewish as well and I think, in retrospect, many of us didn't see Joe as a neo-con...he wasn't a signatory to the PNAC resolution, but that he was definitely Pro-Israel, but nowhere as bellicose as he became. Remember that there was still a peace process underway and it served Joe's political ambitions to be supportive of the process. Once it broke down, he made his own break. Then came the '04 Presidential run...where he was all but run out of the race early and his '06 primary loss...and his ego got all bent out of shape.
My bets are that Bob Schrum...who ran Gore's campaign...had a lot to say in Joe's selection.

32. Is he still DLC? He definitely WAS DLC, but I thought they'd parted ways |
|
Gore's policy speeches -- particularly his opposition to the illegal invasion of Iraq -- seems at odds with the DLC. I always assumed (and perhaps I am mistaken) that Gore's spoken freely, like a man who's shaken off his DLC shackles.

22. he was part of the Florida strategy |
|
he was popular in Florida -- of course, not as popular as Bob Graham who was also on the "short list" and would have been a much better choice -- but that was one of the factors, along with his self donned cloak of morality.
