Child's drawing frightens teacher...sees gang signs
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 09:06 PM by cynatnite

"The assignment was to draw a scary mask or picture - basically a Halloween activity," Harold said.

As a final gory touch, Jordan used a red marker to write "I Kill For Blood" under his drawing.

The picture was not destined for the cover of Fangoria magazine, but it fulfilled the requirement for fifth-grade Halloween art.

However, when Jordan's homeroom teacher, Melissa Pevey, saw the drawing, she found it disturbing. Pevey was concerned enough to contact assistant principal Valerie Johnson and Campus Police.

But it wasn't blood and gore that bothered Pevey. She believed the blood looked a lot like gang-related teardrop tattoos, and she thought the words "I Kill For Blood" could be tied to an infamous Los Angeles street gang known as The Bloods.

Of course it wasn't. Just a freak for a teacher.

3. Reminds me of the time my teacher told me to recite pi to eight digits
and then sent me for psych eval because she thought that chanted backwards I was really saying "I am a radical Muslim Marxist running for president to subvert this Christian nation into a godless zone that worships Allah and gives all your hard-earned money to lazy black people."

Good grief.

10. It was a different teacher.
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 09:30 PM by lizzy
His art teacher assigned him to draw a scary mask and even helped him with his drawing. Then a different teacher saw it. And called the campus police.
Honestly it boggles the mind.

12. Yea, it does.
If she was so concerned, why did she not contact the art teacher first?

7. I hate to hear stories like that. It should mean instant dismissal and banishment for life
from teaching.

Maybe a job testing rectal sticks would be more appropriate.

13. Wow...I feel this kid's pain.
Flashbacks to third grade...1966...art teacher tells us to draw "weather". I'm sitting there thinking "WTF? How do I draw weather?", so I start drawing a big sun and fluffy clouds. Teacher comes around, compliments my "sunny" drawing, but I'm hating it. Then I look out the window and see a huge storm moving in...pitch black clouds, flashes of lightning, and I'm inspired. I drew the storm, big angry lightning bolts, someone in a yellow raincoat and hat getting struck by lightning. Yeah, it was a dark picture for a really normal, happy little girl to draw, but I was drawing what I was seeing as the storm approached. Well...teacher flipped out, yelled at me, took the drawing. When I went home for lunch, I find out the teacher called my mother to schedule a conference about my "disturbing" drawing. Lucky me...Mom knew her kid and encouraged any and all creative expressions and, after hearing my side of the story, went back to school with me and set the "art teacher" straight on what "art" really is! Mom rocked! :yourock: :headbang: :yourock: :headbang: -

15. Gawd. In 5th grade I painted a clown that freaked my teacher out. She called my mom...
... to complain about the eyes I had drawn into the clown's buttons. Apparently that seemed like the sign of a disturbed mind to her. My mother told her there were a lot of art books around the house, including one of Salvador Dali -- of whom the teacher had never heard. Mom thought she was a moron, but never told me about this until years later.

At least Mrs D didn't call the freaking cops.

As for Jordan's scary picture: every grade-school boy I've ever known in my life has drawn similar pictures -- air battles, Godzilla, gore -- they seem to just love that stuff. Most of them eventually grow out of it.
