Let's Hope Some Strong New Voting Laws Are Passed Under an Obama Administration
If there can be a way that ANYONE ELIGIBLE to vote is automatically registered, as well as easier voting conditions (e.g. no long lines, no confusing ballots or machines), and strong laws against trying to disenfranchise voters - I think Democrats could become a permanent majority and/or the entire political landscape shifts more to the left including the Repuke platform. Repukes and the media like to talk about the country being center-right as if its fact, but its bullshit. In every single issues poll since I've been seeing them in the 1990s the majority of people side with more liberal positions on most issues. Voter suppression and disenfrachisement are Repuke strategies because Repukes NEED low turnout. While there are tons of things the Obama administration will have to do just in terms of repairing damage from the Bush administration, I hope a comprehensive voting framework is worked out in his first term, actually before the 2010 mid-term elections.

1. Democrats should immediately push through a National Voting Holiday!
If Obama wins, he should say, "This voting holiday could be what let's Republicans beat me in 2012, but I'm willing to take that chance to make sure that every American gets to vote in every presidential election in America's future."

If Obama spins it as him taking a risk - changing the system that got him elected in the first place - then Republicans can't as easily claim he's doing it to help Democrats. He should play it up as his way to be bipartisan and to give every American the chance to judge his presidency in 2012.

And he should push it though right away, before he 2010 elections!

3. Good Idea, Democrat!
I could definitely get behind the idea of a national voting day!

Voter holiday

All voting must include a paper trail

Stiff penalties for those who try to disenfranchise voters.

Better training for those who register voters.

Better training for poll workers.

Same day voter registration with proper identification.
