******* Official Howard Dean Appreciation Thread *******
For his brilliant 50-state strategy. I thought I'd never see the day again where Georgia, North Carolina, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota and Virginia would ever be in play again.

Thank you, Howard, for not giving up on the fine, dedicated Democrats in the south, midwest and west!

3. Most definitely!
I was a huge proponent of the strategy and it will only continue to turn the US back into a blue country. All of the statements that we are a Center-Right country are foolish. That's the desire of the big money people, not of the vast majority of America. We need to put the right back into the corner they were in and now start to turn back the Reagan revolution.

We're with you Howard!

6. "This is grassroots politics!"
Heres an email message I got last night from my brother:

...as a Move-On member, I was invited to a political rally at Obama headquarters in southeast Portland earlier this evening.
..as I was walking into the building, a guy dressed in an impeccable blue suit walked up to me and asked me if I had voted and mailed my ballot yet. I said, "yes", and he replied to me, "Keep working, were not out of the woods just yet".
I knew I'd seen him before....It was Howard Dean! ...He later gave a rousing speech, along with senator Ron Wyden
and Jeff Merkley....all stumping for Obama, and the critical senate and house seats up for grabs this election.
....I thought the whole event was excellent. This is real grassroots politics.

8. my appreciation for Dr. Dean
Having met you well over a dozen times, while you were governor of Vermont and I was working for VPT, I definitely have an appreciation for your governance in Vermont and your candidacy for president. In Vermont, I more than most know that you had a tough go with a republican legislature, Lt. gov. and a conservative populous. The first governor to tackle civil unions and push for universal health care for children. As presidential candidate you were vilified for an enthusiastic scream, which of course has nothing to do with the issues- they just needed something, but you broke new ground in presidential grassroots campaigning and the 50 state strategy. Now as DNC chairman, you've given the party a clear, focused direction that party members seem to be on board with and the populous backs. You've resurected the Democratic party with new vigor and the kudos belongs to you. Keep on truckin'.

former Vermonter

24. um, Vermont's populace is not conservative
not even close, not even here in the Kingdom. And Howard wasn't a particularly liberal guv either. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but Vermonters are MORE liberal than Howard, not less.

Cali,
current and longtime Vermonter.

10. Heard Lawrence O'Donnell on Randi Rhodes today and his...
(paraphrased) comments were that it's quickly looking like Howard Dean's 50-State Strategy is pure genious and has opended up former Repubilcan strongholds in many corners of the coutry to possible Democratic wins. The result of this is too many leaks in the dam for the McCain campaign to cover.

Go DEAN!!!

It was INCREDIBLE what he did for canvassing! We were state of the art and getting paid really well to do it. We were unsuccessful at ousting Jon Kyl but we did get that p.o.s JD Hayworth booted out by his ass.

Arizona would have never even been glanced at by other bigwigs...His vision has leading in states that would have been well out of our reach 4 years ago.. A picture of the two of us:

YOU ROCK GOV DEAN!

29. Sing for an Unsung Hero!
50 State Strategy was brilliant, with the protracted Democratic primary battle over every state to fill in the gaps and get people registered to vote. Just what the Democratic party needed. Sad that he doesn't get the recognition he deserves from the visible elements of the party, but we down here in the grassroots know to appreciate him.

Whether he decides to retire with a job well done, or take a position in the administration, or stay on as head of the DNC, I wish Howard only the best.

32. Thank you!!
Dr. Dean has done an amazing job. I have a quick story about briefly meeting Dr. Dean in Stowe, Vermont during the summer of 2006. My wife and I were in a malt/lunch shoppe on a sultry August afternoon. My wife noticed that someone familiar was seating next to us..it was Dr. Dean. We really felt that we should respect his privacy and not bother him since he was having lunch with his daughter, I believe. About an hour later we were in a parking lot near the beautiful recreation path in Stowe...we were parked a bit ackwardly and had to maneuver back and forth a few times. I noticed a gentleman on a bike, with a helmet approach the car to help us get out of the parking space..it was Dr. Dean. My wife and I thanked him and mentioned that we "hope we do well in November (2006)". Dr. Dean smiled and said, "I hope so too"...That's one of the few times a met anyone "famous".
