1. I know how sad you must be..

We need to eliminate this whole "legislate by initiative" shit... That's the main problem..

I know many people who never even vote on ANY propositions or initiatives, just because there are so many of them, and they are sometimes counterintuitive.. yes means no, etc.,

This sort of thing needs to be done in the legislature...not by rich people dumping money into their pet issues and getting them on the ballots..

4. Yes! Also, the commercials that support or oppose them are often times ...
... confusing and deceptive and, in the case of Prop Hate, filled with fear and hate.

As bad as the news that Prop Hate passing is, it creates so many problems that the only way to resolve them will be to defeat it in court.

I know, I know, the GOPers will bleat on and on about "activist judges," but they can go fuck themselves and their fear and hate mongering Federalist Society bullshit.

I posted something about this the other day (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4359675&mesg_id=4359675).

3. I concur wholeheartedly!
I know plenty of Democrats who voted for Prop 8 because of their "christian" values. You know, the type who say everyone should be happy but marriage is "just not right". I believe it will still be a problem though, as those who have married will remain so. That is inequality right there. I hope the judges throw it the fuck out.

5. I voted from Holland - NO ON HATE
sadly, our beloved state is becoming more conservative as all the liberals - many tech and 'smart job' workers - are leaving the state for somewhere they can afford to live.

The one 'left behind' are the haters, the rednecks, the ignorant, and the self loathing.

I have never understood legislation that discriminates on such basic issues like rights and freedoms.

6. Down But Not Out...
Yes, it's a shame that paid-for proposition passed, but it doesn't change to fact that Gay Marriage and Civil Unions are here to stay and no proposition is going to change that. It just means more work needs to be done. Yes, it sucks, but few people thought there'd be serious opposition to this proposition and when they realized the Mormons and others were pouring millions into getting this thing passed, they fell behind and sadly it looks like they couldn't make up the difference. But this is a proposition, not a Constitutional ammendment...and one that can be overturned in two years...and with a lot greater focus and resources to make sure it passes. Be assured, there are many of us out here who will stand with you in overturning this travesty and pushing forward with LGBT equality in ALL states.

Cheers...

7. No, it was a proposition to change the Constitution - it's not just
a proposition

Proposition 8: Same-sex marriage

What it would do: Amend the state Constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman.

8. Thank You For The Clarification
I'm not familiar with how the Proposition was written and how this will be applied. Yes, it's a travesty, but someone posted on here that they wanted to eliminate future propositions, which would close the door on overturning this outrage. My point was that in last night's vote, the "No" forces were outgunned and outspent. Another factor, IMHO, was how big of a lead Obama had in the polls may have kept many at home who would have voted against this proposition. Again, the hope is that this proposition is brought back in two years and a better effort is made to defeat it.

9. I am so sad when I think of all the beautiful wedding photos I have

seen, of people who deserve those rights, to call themselves whatever they wish...

...and I break when I think of ronnyk and everyone else who doesn't deserve this. Marriage is between two people who love each other.

10. It's a very sad day when chickens' rights are more important.

Seriously, what the hell is up with that?

Wait, is it possible to get another proposition on the ballot overturning this one? Maybe that's what needs to be done now.
