Tourism boycott of Alaska by Democrats?
Given that Alaska seems to be set to send a felon to the Senate just so they won't have to elect a Democrat to that position why don't Democrats do a tourism boycott of Alaska?

After oil extraction, bleeding the Federal government and possibly fishing, tourism is one of Alaska's main economic engines, 1.5 million people a year visit Alaska.

South Carolina was hurt by the tourism boycott over the Confederate battle flag flying over the statehouse, why not do the same to Alaska?

1. There are many proud democrats in Alaska, some of whom are my friends
I think a boycott is premature.

4. There are quite a few Dems in SC too..
I guess electing a felon to Congress is less important than the Confederate battle flag to some people..

7. No
Its time to unite. To come together. Its not time to divide and seperate. We have been subjected to division, fear and loathing for the past 8 years. We are above that. We cant sink to their level. We must now set the example, and show the proper way to lead, and govern.

6. I haven't been to Florida since 2000..
We used to go to Saint Augustine almost every year.. Now we go to Brunswick or Jekyll Island.

So the answer to your question is yes..

5. Boycotting a State for Excercising it's right to vote?
Really?

Did you watch Obama's speech last night? Did you take anything at all from it? I think punishing people who voted for someone other than Obama is pretty much the opposite of what he was talking about...

9. Boycotting a state for flying a flag you don't like?
Not really that much difference.

And yet plenty of Dems supported the SC boycott.

11. What the hell?
WE need some help up here, don't abandon us!

I think they may be massaging the election results, exit polls showed Stevens losing.

And Don Young was almost thrown out in the primary, how the hell did he win the general?

13. Constructive Engagement
Don't boycott Alaska.

Visit it. Go see Denali. Go see the Kenai peninsula. Learn for yourself about it's awe inspiring beauty to strengthen your resolve not to let this national jewell be plundered by corporate interests.

15. Not all the crazy forests were caused by melting tundra
by the way. Many of the dead trees you see here had their roots drowned during the 1964 earthquake when the ground sank and the water table rose. That is at least the case with the tree skeletons you see south of Anchorage.

18. Thank you, Brentspeak....
We worked hard, but the Republicans came out in droves. The "Palin effect" was in full force -- a lot of people still see her as the agreeable bipartisan "get 'er done" governor that left us two months ago, rather than the shrill harpy that we saw out on the campaign trail. I guess time will tell.

According to this morning's paper there are still 70,000 mail-in and questioned ballots to be counted, plus people who voted early before the election but after Thursday, I believe, have not had their votes counted yet. There is still a chance that Mark Begich will pull this out .... I think only 3,000 votes separate him from Stevens.

I'm not so sure about Berkowitz/Young. Berkowitz just never connected with a lot of us -- even quite a few of us Democrats. Don will get indicted soon enough and then maybe by 2010 we can get it right. I think our Democratic party here is still very disorganized, having been losers for so very long. It wasn't all that long ago that they couldn't even find anybody to run against Don and Ted, so the fact that Mark has come this close I think is a good sign.

I know what it's like to be a Democrat in GOP territory (Scott Garrett won NJ's 5th district again, last night ).
