7. There really is no such thing as a hypoallergenic breed
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 01:27 PM by sjdnb
Additionally, with regard to "non-shedding dogs", while there is no such animal (except for hairless varieties which present greater maintenance and care challenges), some do shed considerably less than others (i.e., several terrier breeds, schnauzers, poodles, etc.). However, understand that if it is an allergy or asthma that you are concerned with, it is likely not the shedding of hair that causes the reaction in humans, it is proteins in the saliva, dander or contact with urine, that will often trigger allergic reactions. Non-allergenic breeds of dogs or cats do not exist. Animals tend to shed dander at different rates and hair length is only a minor factor in the amount of dander an animal makes. Animals may also be more allergenic at certain times of the year as they go through dander-shedding cycles. The characteristics of a person’s allergies can also change over time. Purchasing a so-called "non-allergenic" breed usually does not work out.

13. Isn't there a difference in a dog with fur and a dog with hair?
I thought the dogs that are classified as hypoallergenic have hair and don't have as much dander.

I would hate to see them go through the trouble of choosing from the "hypoallergenic" group and it doesn't help with the allergies.

I have food allergies and I know how frustrating and soemtimes dangerous they could be.

6. As a rescue person, I would prefer he not adopt puppies.
They might be funny and a lot of fun. But, they are a mess to clean up after. And you don't know their personality or how they will turn out.

9. that is a beautiful dog
Both of my dogs are rescued -- one was found in a hot car on a hot day, he almost died. The other was found on the side of the road; after we adopted her we discovered she has medical problems (can't keep her food down unless she eats upright and is held up for 30 minutes after!), but we love them both so much, and I can tell that they are grateful. They are the most loving dogs on the planet.

He is the Bestest Critter in the world....From what I understand, his prior people did not understand the Aussie Shepard way of thinking, they could not handle an active Critter. So what did they do? they abandoned him! I'll never understand people!!

Here's another pic...He's (actually I am) a Showoff
