Can anyone explain to me what difference Lieberman makes?

Can anyone explain Obama's logic in asking that Lieberman stay in the Democratic caucus?

2. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
It will also be satisfying to watch Lieberman squirm knowing he owes his political life to President Obama. And no doubt Rahm Emmanuel will keep a close eye on any Lieberman inclination to further develop his Iago complex.

15. I don't think Lieberman feels he screwed up
What he did was not a one time gaff, he was blasting Obama for months. He's a damn traitor and he doesn't care who knows it.

5. Holy Joe is getting ready to get punked. I predict that
in January they will leave Holy Joe with a minor leadership position and than ignore him. They need him now but after January....nopity.

6. The Senate will vote
Lieberman's fate is up to them. Obama expressed an opinion but other than that I think he'll just let the Senate do its thing.

9. The only way I can figure is...
...if you kick him now, he'll be a belligerent jackass and vote against you just for spite.

...but if you keep him in the caucus, making sure he KNOWS you have just cause to boot him at ANY time, for ANY reason, he'll vote for as many of your issues as he can, because he knows he owes you and that you can crush him at any time.

The problem with that is that he's a turncoat, and will find a way to screw the Dems as soon as it looks convenient for him.

14. I think so too. Also, Obama never said Lieberman should keep his chairmanships...
... only to allow him to caucus with the Democrats. That alone should be telling.

11. O being the reconciliation guy. Durbin wants Joe's head on a pike and so does Shumer, I guess.
There will be a secret vote of the Dem Senate caucus next week so ... who knows what will happen. This may be more good cop/bad cop stuff.

I heard that O didn't want to make Lieberman into a martyr. Perhaps he intends to use guilt to get as much as possible from Lieberman (if that is possible). O will need all the votes he can get.

I don't know but I generally find the assumption that O is smart and may have a long term strategy that I'm not aware of a safe bet. He also isn't going to screw up his long term objectives for a short term burn on a political jackass.

12. Lieberman smiled as people at McCain-Palin rallies screamed "kill him"
as she called Obama a terrorist, socialist.
