Senator Reid Once Again Caves In To Republicans On Auto Bailout |
|
He won't bring the proposal to a vote, thereby giving the Republicans the opportunity to blame Congress should the Big Three collapse. And it appears most of the the Democratic Party Senators are going along with him. Too bad President-Elect Obama hasn't spoken out forcefully, or at all, this week in opposition to the destruction of the domestic auto industry.
That's why Dana Perino the White House press secretary was able to say “If Congress leaves for a two-month vacation without having addressed this important issue … then the Congress will bear responsibility for anything that happens in the next couple of months during their long vacation."
Seantor Reid .... The White House thanks you, President Bush thanks you, the southern right-to-work Republican Senators thank you and the foreign automakers who will be getting over 50 billion dollars in bailout money from their governments thank you.
Bring the conditioned 25 billion dollars auto bailout to a vote so we know where everyone stands should the domestic auto industry collapse.
Vote on it!

1. Make the execs give up the private jets, exec dining room, earn no more than |
|
250K.
In fact, that should be enforced for any company that gets a bailout.

2. Would Republican Senators be so dumb as to filibuster this loan? |
|
I don't think so and logically that would mean there are more than enough votes to pass it unless Democrats are not united on it..That is the only conclusion I can come to for Reid canceling the vote.

4. Players in the kindergarten sandbox known as corporatist government. |
|
People in government are acting like a bunch of kindergartners in a sandbox... with Bush as the resident bully.
There is no real thinking or consideration going on whatsoever... just a me me me mentality, let's grab whatever we can while we can before our rough and tumble destructiveness ruins the whole box.
The problem is that the world outside the box is getting smaller and smaller and more and more crowded... with the hungry, the debt ridden, the homeless, the enslaved, the abused... and all that that means. The implications are obvious, even for the non-thinking idiots who plan to step outside the box and live on what they have grabbed.

will indeed sell it to the public.
The only way to stop that is with a vote!

14. No, I don't get it. Until the big 3 come up with a viable plan to |
|
prove they mean business, and maybe even sell their private luxury jets, I think it's prudent to wait to help them. I used to think we should bail them out. Now I'm not so sure. If they went to that meeting so unprepared yesterday, it says a lot about them, and none of it is good.

20. Did you read their testimony? Have you read the bailout proposal? |
|
I bet the answer to both questions is no.
However, don't let that stop you from commenting on either the bridge loan or their testimony and the testimony of the auto workers representative.

Force the Republicans to put their names on the death certificate of the US economy by voting no.
Thats what a smart leader would do.

12. We Just Need One Senator To Speak Out, Call A News Conference, Demand A Vote |

on a conditional bailout.
Who will that Senator be?
Someone with balls who understands the stakes.
Just one Senator demanding a vote would probably be enough to force Reid to change his position.
Do we have to beg Democratic senators to do the right thing?

|
Seriously, do the Democrats ever take a stand? Seems like they run away with their tails tucked between their legs every chance they get. Vote!! I doubt the Republicans will filibuster it. They would be too scared that an auto industry collapse would be completely blamed of them. That's why they don't want there to be a vote...they want the entire Congress to be blamed, not just Republicans.

25. The American auto industry has been destroying itself by its own lack of foresight. |
|
Such hubris, to continue building products nobody wants to buy, and then demand government handouts as a reward for their stupidity. I know people patiently waiting on waiting lists for Priuses while the giganto SUVs sit on storage lots. The management should have had more foresight than this.
Pouring taxpayer funds into companies so badly managed is purely foolish. Bail out the auto workers, yes, and kick out the management -- turn management chores over to upper-level workers who have been with the companies long enough to understand what actually goes on in the real world.
