2. And there in lies the problem.. Buying of new cars is something people do
when they have money. If you don't have money, you make do with what you have. If you are losing your job or have lost your job.. then worrying about paying current bills becomes challenging. People on unemployment are not buying new cars. When people are worried about their future at their current position, they aren't investing in new vehicles.

What did they all think was going to happen when they sent all the jobs overseas and left no buying power with the people who buy the most? OUR entire economic model is going to have to change. Obama must realize, I hope, that rebuilding our entire country in a "green" manner will allow for the economy to move. The problem is that these old theories are going to have to land in the dump forever. People are going to have to unlearn the word "free-market" and learn "work value" and "intrinsic value".

3. Like how they did after WW II, "work value" and "intrinsic value", hence
the rise of the middle class.

5. And this is the aspect of the 'bailout' or 'loan' I don't get
Nobody is buying cars now. Even Prius's (Prii??) are stacking up in parking lots because car dealers don't want them. Unless there is a dramatic turnaround or the Big 3 begin selling cars in the sub-$10k price zone, what difference will it make if they are still operating?

6. When I read this yesterday I couldn't believe, wasn't it
just 6 months to a year ago that people had to get on a year+ waiting list to get one of these???

7. If I had a job, even a crappy job, but with an iota of security,
I'd be buying a new GM car tomorrow.

As it is though, I'll be buying a 10-year-old used car to replace my stolen Saturn.
