Alison Stewert - Any Else Think She's Great? |
|
I'm just catching up on the webcasts of the last few days of the Rachel Maddow show. First we had Arianna Huffington. Now, I'm sorry, I love Arianna and her writing is often superb but as a TV personality, her accent reminds me so strongly of Zsa Zsa Gabor that I just can't take her seriously.
Alison Stewert, on the other hand, is great. She's not as good as Rachel but it would be unfair to expect a substitute host to be. However, she is very good. Bright, attractive (it never hurts) and she actually looks somewhat more comfortable on TV than Rachel does. She doesn't have the same depth but that's ok, not every show has to be Newsnight and she's far better than David Shuster is on Countdown.
According to fairly reliable rumour, the liberal clique (for lack of a better term) is gaining power at MSNBC as the ratings for Countdown and the Rachel Maddow Show continue to remain reliably strong. Granted, there are always power games behind the scenes but if that's true, and MSNBC is starting to very slowly reposition itself as the liberal network (which would be excellent, Faux for the conservatives, MSNBC for liberals and CNN repositions itself as the moderate, objective middle), what can be done with Ms. Stewert?

4. She was filling in on NPR today. |
|
She was doing a piece on Michelle Obama for TOTN. I really like her-she's smart, funny, and asks good questions.

6. Her husband is a VP there. |

She'll always be able to find some sort of place at MSNBC so long as he's around. Not that she isn't talented and likable, but the nepotism sure doesn't hurt either.

7. Subbing for Rachel...... |
|
makes it apparent that she is versed in reading whatever is put in front of her.
Since she works for MSNBC, this means that most of her readings lean very right.
Though, I was surprised at seeing her sub for Rachel, and it was obvious that it was Rachels script being read. She even tried to imitate Rachel's demeanor and wit, not too bad, conserdering.

8. I think she's great. I used to think of her as Keith's official "permanent |
|
substitute" host a couple of years ago when she used to still work at MSNBC. She even had her own show on MSNBC then, but it got canceled.
I hope MSNBC brings Alison back on a permanent basis. I certainly wouldn't mind Mika, Joe, and David Gregory getting pink slips. Heck, since they got rid of Rita Cosby, Tucker Carlson and Don Imus (:puke: with all three of them!!!), they could get rid of some more "dead weight" to make room for Alison.

9. I like the sound of that |
|
Let's make MSNBC a real liberal network, a liberal answer to Faux (only without the lies). Forty-odd percent of the market is liberal and no-one's really catering to us, that's a big chunk of change waiting to be made.

11. Was a fan since long ago |
|
She and Anderson Cooper used to co-host ABC's Up to the Minute" news on in the wee hours of the a.m.
The two together were so quick witted and clever, it was a must watch for me.
