Why Hillary Doesn't Fit Into Obama's Program as SoS |
|
Believe me, I want to see Hillary Clinton in a high-ranking position in this administration, even if I strongly favored Obama over Clinton. I understand Obama's quandry--there are only a few cabinet positions appropriate for someone of Senator's Clinton's status. But I wish there was another solution--why can't she be a spokesperson for national health care or universal education insead?
As Democrats, we have short memories. Remember Obama alluding to Clinton's foriegn policy failures as the reason to trust him rather than her?
By selecting Clinton, now, Obama confirms what Bill Clinton asserted all along--there is no meaningful difference between Obama and Clinton on foriegn policy. Sure, HRC is far from the worst possible pick and her worldwide preeminence will add weight to her ability to negotiate.... But needless to say her selection could be a blow to Obama's credibility as something other than business as usual. In the future, the Repugs will use HRC as a fundraising and propaganda tool whether her diplomacy is successful or not.

The Obama administration has a once in decades opportunity to reignite dialougue on a comprehensive Mid East peace. In order to be up to the task, Clinton will have to make enemies of the neothugs in Washington. Is she capable of this?
And what about the Department of Peace? Will we get it?

5. Let's say it together - there's no significant difference between Clinton and Obama on FP. |

Instant credibility with world leaders. Smart. Has the backing and policies of Obama behind her. Personable.
She's perfect.

9. It bears repeating, perhaps, that this is OBAMA's CHOICE. He gets to decide who fits |
