3. For the longest time, motor oil hadn't gone up |
Then a couple of weeks ago, I stopped to purchase some and the price had suddenly doubled. I asked the guy at the auto store why, and he said that he didn't know, but they had just raised all their prices. I think I paid about $10 for 4 quarts.

can find it on sale. I change my own oil, that's about the only thing I can still do outside of washing it. I found Valvaline Synthetic on sale yesterday at Advance Auto for I think $24 for 5 quarts and a STP filter. My car is going to have to live with Valvaline this time.

6. I've heard that going back and forth between synthetic and normal oil is a no-no |
Something about gaskets and seals not liking the differences, but that's rumor grade info. I have no actual knowledge since I can't afford synthetics. Only people I know that actually use them are salespeople that are able to expense their oil changes and maintenance.

9. The Valvoline is also synthetic, of course |
some people will argue that not all synthetics are real synthetics. I've seen that on my motor scooter site, some people get about as fired up about oil as we do on politics. Some people claim the only true synthetic is Amsul others say Royal Purple or Mobil 1. It says so on the bottle that's good enough for me.

10. Do you know if switching is bad? My source on that is of unknown value. |
Just out of curiousity, I was wondering if switching from one to the other was bad.

11. No you can switch from synthetic to dino and back.... |
its an old mechanics tale that you can't. I ran my Chevy pickup on both. Had 317,000 miles on it when I sold it. No engine repairs ever and it still ran great.

8. Where is the conspiracy in that? |
You're trying to take all the fun out of stuff again.
