DU girly dog owners check in here |
|
Two Maltese here. They have no idea that they're small or girly. In fact, they routinely (and foolishly) challenge the Great Dane next door whenever they get the opportunity (fortunately, a fence between our properties has kept them from getting themselves into trouble!).

my husband didn't think he would like a girly dog either, now he is mush in their paws. I had a 129lb lab mix before this and these two dogs are the greatest fur babies on the planet. Don't get me wrong, I love my son's 160 lb mastiff, but I'll live with a small dog any time!

neighborhood! They're friendly & loveable to everyone unless they feel challenged, and there's one neighborhood dog who always wants to do that. Our 3 old furbabies don't bother anymore, but our 7 yo Abby believes she's she can defeat ANYTHING! She's a whole 17 pounds of female warrior!

11. yep. we refer to our maltese as the "watchbeasts" -- they're fearless |
|
and they play fetch and tug of war, go for walks, curl up and enjoy being petted. Basically, they do all the things that "big" dogs do. And when they curl up in bed with us at night, they don't take up nearly as much room!

5. My Lab has submitted to every girly dog she's ever encountered. |
|
She drops down to the ground and tries to crawl under them.

She was given to me. I would have never chosen her. She is also the smartest, most loyal dog I have ever had. I have had her for over 8 years and we have camped across the U.S. She is a great companion, has a gentle personality yet she is an awesome guard dog. She has also never, ever bitten anyone.
She is a tiny, white poodle, but her name is Moby, cause she has a big personality. (and she loves her ball)
I would like to see the Obamas get a 'non-girly' dog, though. I have found that most dogs are great companions.

8. Are Standard Poodles girly? |
|
I shave mine head to toe, no poofy hair on him. He barks really deeply too. Mine behaves elegantly until he acts like a goofball. Is that girly?

9. Nothing 'girly' about that! |
|
Its just a perception, and the 'yappy' thing is another; my husband didn't want a yappy dog, got a Bedlington Terrier, under 20 lbs, firm, steady bark (when necessary), but some might think she was 'girly' 'cause she looked like a lamb!
