Woman going into labor during rush hour given ticket
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 12:00 AM by Lirwin2
Jennifer Davis was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Nov. 18, her contractions just 3 minutes apart. Her husband, John, was trying to appear calm for his wife's sake, driving in the breakdown lane of Route 2. They pulled up behind a state trooper to ask whether they could continue using the lane to reach the next exit, near Alewife Station.

Not only did the trooper say no, he gave them a $100 citation for driving in the breakdown lane, made them wait for their citation while he finished writing someone else's ticket, and even seemed to ask for proof of pregnancy, Jennifer Davis said.

"He said, 'What's under your jacket?' I said, 'My belly,' " Davis said. "He waited and gestured with his head like, 'OK, let's see it.' He waited for me to unzip my jacket. I mean, it was so clear that I was pregnant."

3. I hope karma puts him in a situation where he desperately needs medical attention...
... and barely manages to get it before it's too late.

Then he can spend a nice looooong time reflecting on his poor judgement with this pregnant woman.

You know, I'm getting so goddamn angry with people's blatant stupidity that the "Gentle" part of my user name applies less and less as time goes on. :( Please, Mr. Obama, help turn this shit around and help heal our country!

7. A civil lawsuit may not be successful.
There's no proof that his actions, which were mean-spirited but, technically, within the bounds of the law, caused any harm to the mother or child. I suppose she could claim that she suffered mental anguish, or similar damages, but the baby was born, none the worse for wear, a full five hours after she arrived at the hospital.

Anyway, if this episode is any indication of the officer's attitude, in general, I hope he washes out of the law enforcement profession, sooner rather than later.

2. We can only hope that that city will face budget cuts and that cop will be the first one fired
Pregnant women in labor should get a free pass to drive however the fast they want to.

4. Longing for the good old days of small town 25 years ago.
I took a hockey stick just above the right eye. Stupid asphalt slapshots, but anyway... My mom put me in her Escort Wagon and hauled ass to the emergency room, aaaaand we got pulled over. The cop took one look at me and went blues and twos in front of us the entire way to the hospital. My first police experience, btw.

10. Against procedure... hubby and I were talking about it
he used to be a cop, the procedure part... we are betting the state police got sued after somebody crashed when the officer went too fast

Not justifying it... in fact the PR flack... you can bet a lawyer or two are looking at the Polices and Procedures manual as I type this

9. They did this morning
but the story, as covered by Keith in the worst persons is even funnier than that

You see the husband asked two staties and was told to use the emergency lane since it was an emergency... and then they reached mister I cannot read the intent of the law... who proceeded to make so many mistakes it ain't even funny

So the fact that two officers did their job and this one not so much, should make the law and order types really have fun splaining this one

That was absolutely the wrong thing for that cop to do.

14. I hope he gets everything that's coming to him
What an ass. I hope he runs into the husband some night in a dark alley...

Damn, hell yes he should be fired and sued and probably should even get his ass kicked. We ought to pass a law that encourages that sort of thing in cases like this.
