Just found out my new fav. pizzeria is owned by a neo-con :( |
|
For starters - my favorite pizzeria is Cracolici's on Broadway in Newburgh... The slices aren't so great, but the owners are friends of mine. Both are Conservative Dems or "Independence" (what libertarians call themselves in NYS to confuse the sheeple) party members.
Anyway I found another pizzeria near the dollar movie theater where I take my clients for social outings.
Last night I was talking to the owner. We have a lot in common - shop downtown - away from the box stores - buy American... Then he tells me that Obama isn't gonna be able to do anything about the economy (I agree). Then he tells me that he voted for Palin because she can take down a deer.
I told him that the client that I was with (very behavioral schizophrenic) is a hunter and could take a deer down with a gun. But that didn't make him qualified to run the free world.
The pizza owner tried to backtrack, realizing that not only did I vote for Obama, but I think that Ralph Nader is a national treasure. We talked about what a great pick Palin was (there was no one McCain could have chosen that would have got him closer to the white house - she was his best bet) and I left.
I doubt I'll go back. I don't know of any democratically owned pizzerias, except my buddies with the beat slices.

Opening a restaurant in today's economy is very risky. Naming it the "Right Wing Diner" only adds to your risk. This person just alienated at least (if not probably more) half of his potential customer base.
However, if right-wingers are attracted to the place, because of his political beliefs--the owner could lure in more customers.
Very risky...especially now.
Geez.
I'd like to see the menus as well:
--Condoleeza "Rice"--a steaming plate of baloney served on a bed of steamed rice.
--Rumsfeld Ribs--Tender ribs made from cows from the "north, east, south and west."
--The "Cheney" BLT--Cured in an underground bunker. If you don't like it..."SO!"
--Wolfowitz Waffle Fries--Lots of holes and lots of grease--that we slick back with our hands.
Oh, you could spend hours having fun with this one!

2. Why do business owners tell customers what their political beliefs are? |
|
There's a pretty good chance that you're going to piss people off and lose customers. Just shut up about politics and talk about your pizza.

3. On some level you really have to choose sides or play all the sides |
|
Like our Con + GOP County Exec owns a restaurant. The former Dem mayor owns a resturant...
Then there are the real rat worms... Those that loved Bush when he was the shit, now love Obama...
And then there are those that just feed the people... Since I am very political, I always know where the owners stand.
I always support gay rights, anti-war, anti-drug war shops... It isn't Dem vs. GOP, it is right v. wrong for me....
What sucks is when you find your favorite place is some gay bashing, anti-choice funding institution...

6. In some cases the benefits outweigh the losses. In some cases the owner just |
|
wants to speak his or her mind and since it's their business they can.
I go to a pasta place that makes DU look centrist, the owner is such a lefty. He declares it and will talk about it anytime - I think he feels that's the virtue of owning his own place.
This is in Seattle so I don't think it hurts his business any. In another city it might.

5. I'd stop eating at a restaurant only if the owner or employees spewed racism or tried to proselytize |
|
My favorite Mexican place is owned by second-generation Mexican immigrants who are Republicans. It doesn't bother me a bit.

7. Why don't you tell your friends... |
|
that their pizza sucks? Help them to make a better pizza and you'll be helping them to outperform the right-wing pizza parlor. That's how to beat 'em.
