I am so angry at this guy right now I could puke and am starting to think he is a republican mole. Why is the man allowed to continue as the majority leader? His closing speech tonight was lame and disheartening. It's time to replace him with someone else.. Boxer, Feingold, Kerry, Durbin. GET RID OF HARRY!!!

He did that for procedural reasons, to give them the option to reconsider the vote later. A failed motion can only be reconsidered if someone who voted against it moves to reconsider.

That's not what I'm referring to. I'm am just sick and tired of his failed leadership over and over again for two fucking years. This guy is not an effective leader and he's been played by, what is in reality, a weak and beaten minority. He is an ineffective majority leader and he has proven his ineffectiveness. He needs to step aside before the next session of congress.

|
he did on this particular issue, you defend the man? He sure as shit could have done more. Maybe if he watched the criminals in the other party he would see how its done. They can block everything dems want to do with a minority of votes. We can't do shit in either the House or Senate with a MAJORITY, but the repubics can tie the entire country up while being in the MINORITY.
He and Pelosi are disgusting specimens of political garbage who might be telling you they're democrats, but they've done every fucking thing to promote the corporate agenda since they hit Washington, D.C.

My 5th grade son could have predicted that. I mean really what is with these people? It looks like they want this to happen. Then we can all be earning eight dollars an hour while they sit high up on their perches.
Meanwhile Specter is complaining right now how they've been sitting there for two days on their well padded asses working on this. Can you believe these fuckers?

I don't understand all the fury at Harry Reid. What more could he possibly have done? There are some Repubs that want to bust the unions so badly that they'll do anything, even plunge the stock market and untimately the economy into depression. Please watch the Senate at work and see what Harry Reid does before you stir up all this misplaced anger at a man who is doing his best.

His speech was not pathetic. Harry Reid is soft-spoken but that doesn't mean he isn't tough. Now Specter is up trying to blame the Dems for the failure of cloture. You don't get up on the Senate floor and rant and rave, if that's what you expected of Reid. That sort of stuff goes in the House but not the Senate. Most of what happens in the Senate goes on behind the scenes. We get only a glimpse of all the negotiating that goes on.

36. What Dems are you counting in the majority? |
|
Reid currently has 48 dems since Obama resigned his seat, plus 2 independents. That is 50 senators, not a big majority. Kennedy is still out ill, Kerry is overseas at the global warming conference, so for this vote he had a total of 48 if all the dems voted Yes, 46 dems and 2 independents. That means even if every dem voted yes, 12 repubs would have had to vote yes also to get to 60. The big majority won't come until January.
I don't know why the Montana Senators voted No, you would have to ask them. And I don't know why Blance Lincoln did either. We are democrats because we don't think that everybody in the party has to be in lockstep with everybody else, that is why you want more than a razor thin majority.
I'm not saying that I like Reid in the leadership position, I do wish it was somebody else. But in this case, he didn't control enough votes.

All he did was focus on staff and the Capitol police and almost broke into tears.
I think he knows his days are numbered.
If not, why in the hell was he blubbering over them, they're all still going to have jobs after the New Year.
It was really strange and really bizarre....then again, I don't watch him much live on the floor and maybe this is normal.

Long ago I watched as Sen. George Mitchell turned the Democratic majority
Senate over to Sen. Bob Dole. The Democrats were co-opted long, long ago.
Daschle was frightened by the GOP war on him -- demonized him as "Satan"....
And I didn't blame him -- it works well for the GOP, whichever technique they're
using at the time. The right doesn't come to power except by violence, intimidation
and vote stealing.

Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 01:49 AM by backscatter712
and his name is Harry Reid.
Reid, in fact, has the same job that Alan Colmes had until recently - that of professional punching bag. The truth is that he only pretends to be on our side, then deliberately takes a dive when it comes time to land the heavy blows, all the time looking like a sniveling wuss. His job, as was Colmes' job, is to be bitchslapped - to be the professional beaten spouse as the Republicans smack him down over and over again, to make the entire left-side of the aisle look like wusses. His sole purpose is to make himself, and all Democrats by extension, an object of contempt.
I'll be damned glad when that professional pantywaist gets replaced by someone who actually does fight for our side.
