House Votes 113-0 To Begin Impeachment Proceedings
Blagojevich Has No Plans To Resign, Appears Ready To Fight Charges

CHICAGO (CBS) ― House Speaker Michael Madigan Monday formed a House committee to begin preparations to impeach embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich. A resolution to begin the impeachment proceedings passed unanimously, 113-0.

The 21-member committee will work every day from now through the end of the session on Jan. 14 with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day to move the impeachment ahead through the House. The House as a whole will then vote on whether or not to impeach the governor.

If they choose to impeach Blagojevich, there will be a trial in the Senate, with Illinois' Supreme Court Justice presiding. Respresentatives Lou Lang of Skokie, John Fritchey of Chicago and Jack Franks of McHenry County will serve as managers or prosecutors.

2. Blago should resign to spare the state the expense.
Though he never did care much about the state.

6. 113-0. Wow.
What is the point of him not resigning now? Why would you choose to be impeached instead of resign when you know impeachment is inevitable?

11. Hmm. Why is he SO DESPERATE for money?
I know that he has unpaid legal bills, but so do a lot of politicians. This does not make most politicians openly advertise a Senate seat for sale. I'm just not satisfied that this is the complete reason for his actions. I'm also not completely sold on the idea that he's completely nuts. Oh I think he's off, for sure. But even people who are a little off don't typically take the risks he did.

Maybe he owes money for "off-the-books" items or services - if you know what I mean. Maybe someone is threatening to break his thumbs or take a bat to his kneecaps. They should do a thorough investigation to see if he had any involvement with drugs, prostitutes, or mafia-type "favors".

This would be a much more logical explanation for his actions than any other theories I've heard so far.

13. Oh... well now that would be a good explanation too.
I hadn't heard anything about him being a gambler, let alone having a problem with it. Is there any evidence/interviews to substantiate this or is it just a rumor?

8. Selling senate seats --> Bad
Making up rational for war, torturing folks, shredding the constitution --> Perfectly acceptable republican behavior.

Where the hell has our country gone?

15. What do they know?
I mean, I have suspicions about Fitzgerald going after a Democrat. This is clearly all political, as no Democrat really does anything wrong, I'm sure he has a perfectly valid reason for saying all those things he did on the wiretaps. Oh, and Republicans get away with it too, so we shouldn't prosecute Blagojevich. Oh, I'm also an idiot.
