Chrysler to shut down all 30 plants for a month, but ‘white collar workers’ will keep regular salaries.»

Chrysler announced today that it would shut all 30 of its North American plants for a month, starting this Friday. ABC News reports that while 46,000 union workers will be shut off from their regular paychecks, the “white collar” management will continue to receive their salaries:

These {UAW} workers will not be receiving their regular income. There will be an unknown number of white collar workers who will not be working as well, but the expectation is that they will continue to receive their regular salaries during this time.

Chrysler said that union workers will receive “state unemployment benefits as well as supplementary payments from Chrysler” based off “a union negotiated formula.” (HT: Marcy Wheeler)

5. They don't care
My view is and has been for a while that the GOP knows no matter how badly they fuck everything up as long as voters suffer from racial and social tensions, they will have at least 40% of the public voting for them. White southerners, people intimidated by or uncomfortable with gays and latinos and others of that ilk aren't going to start voting democratic anytime soon no matter what happens.

January 12th..officially. The rumors were that we'd be down until Feb. 9th. Cross yer fingers...we'll see.

9. thank-ya.
They cut our shift as well..so last Friday was the last night most of us will work together..we'll be shuffled around throughout the plant..so most of us said our "goodbyes" exchanged emails & phone #'s...then we went out and knocked some shots & beers down. We're really the lucky ones..there are many many more facing this similar situation in worse shape than us. we'll be fine in the end.

8. This is so horrible and unfair. They can't sell vehicles because
the fucking banks that just got bailed out won't give out loans. My brother in law sells cars and today couldn't get a woman with a credit score of 725 a vehicle? When did that become a bottom of the barrel score? Great job history and all. This is horrible.

10. Any bailout they receive should come with the requirement that those "white" collar workers
Pay back every single cent they received above what the average union worker on the line during the same time.

11. a penny per year,...isn't that a helluva lot less than the bankers and financiers
confused

I WANT ANSWERS FROM THE INDUSTRY THAT CAUSED THIS SHIT,...THE INDUSTRY THAT IS GETTING BILLIONS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

That's what I want.

I want to know who the hell is getting so damn much money without being scrutinized while the manufacturing base is getting the shit knocked out of them.

I see another obscure, fog, switch-n-take,...and I DO NOT LIKE IT,...I AM SICK, SICK, SICK AND DAMNED TIRED OF IT!!!!

That's all. Rant over.
