I've been spending Christmas Eve with my sister's married family since 1993. My father died in 1992 and, as a result, my mother accepted the goodwill of my sister's mother-in-law. After my mother died in 1995, my sister's family became my surrogate family. They are good people that accept me (and my child) into their home.
I live in the Panhandle of Texas. Whereas, my sister's family are Hispanic and Democrat, they are very conservative. Recently, I have observed them as they have begrudgingly accepted Barack Obama as their president. At Thanksgiving dinner, I heard them proclaim that they must respect the newly elected President, even if they don't agree with him.
I don't know about you, but these are the very real relationships that I cherish. My sister's in-laws are good people. They are kind to me and my daughter. I am positive that if I were ever in trouble, these people would come through for me.
For all the separation and hate, I have this wonderful, surrogate family, that doesn't have to include me and yet they do.
I and my child are truly blessed.
Merry Christmas to all. May you see the forest in spite of the trees. May you be as blessed as we are. May you have love, and comfort and all joy.
