"The President and me like to just walk through the rooms."
Laura Bush's White House Tour.

1. She seems to always refer to her husband as "The President".
2. "The President and ME"???
Oh LAURA! And you a librarian? Weren't you an English major?
Didn't they cover basic grammar?
Oh dear.
:-(

1. Are you referring to the White House series on C-span?
I was really looking forward to watching it, until it turned out to be the bush show. Soooo disappointing! :puke:

don't capture my attention in the least when I hear them, but "the President and ME?" Good heavens....

12. "Me and my brother went to the store."
Yikes, try teaching a kid these days to say, "My brother and I".

You explain that "brother" should go first out of respect, they get that but not the "Me versus I" part, and then say, "My brother and me went to the store."

*sigh*

17. Well, that was always drummed into me as a kid...
but I admittedly sometimes catch myself saying "the office will be staffed by Christine and I on Christmas Eve" (rather than Christine and me).... I don't know why, but that one is not reflexive for me. I have to think about it or correct myself afterwards.

22. My elementary English teacher taught us to omit the other person in the sentence
then repeat the sentence to determine if "I" or "me" should be used.

After removing the word "pResident", the sentence would read "Me like to walk through the rooms".

Do the same thing for objects of the preposition:

Walking through the rooms is meaningful for the pResident and me. Without the word "pResident", it would read "Walking through the rooms is meaningful for me"; too many people would use the word "I", which would be incorrect.

Is that your "mii" in your avatar?

Hubby & I got a Wii game system from our kids for Christmas & your avatar looks like my hubby's "mii".

but it got shut down last year. It's supposed to look like Eugene Levy as Sid Dithers from the old SCTV series :)

Actually, the only parts of your avatar that were used in my hubby's mii were the hair color/style & the glasses; his eyes & mouth are different.

Many of us were raised with, "...and I", but that is improper grammar.

7. Oxford and I humbly disagree.
Take "the President" out of the sentence to see if "I" or "me" is correct.

That is the test I've always used.

11. "It happened to the president and me" is proper (object of preposition).
"The president and I walk" is proper, nominative case, nouns to the verb "walk."

"It happened to both her and I" is wrong -- should be "to her and me."

"The gift was from the president and me" is correct.

13. No, not when it's the subject of the sentence as in this case. Take away
"the president", you wouldn't say "me" likes to walk, etc. When it's the object, as in "It's for the president and me," take away and "the president" and you would say "me." Hope this is clear. Personally, I think sportscasters have dummied down our language!

Edited on Sun Dec-28-08 07:13 PM by SoCalDem
In 5th grade we were taught to say each pronoun ALONE, to determine which sounded best..

ex:

Bill and me went

Bill went?
Me went?
easy for even a 10 year old, to see that "I" was the proper pronoun to use:)

"The War Crimes Suspect and me like to walk through the rooms."

"That Worthless Piece of Shit and me like to walk through the rooms."

"The Unelected Squatter and me like to walk through the rooms."

The incorrect part of that phrase is to the left of the "and," not the right of it.

while Harry Truman, Bess and Margaret were on board. Harry looked at the speedometer mounted in the car and quietly waited for Bess to leave the room before ordering the train to slow down to a safer 80 MPH.
