Harry Reid says Burris won't be seated. Therefore,
expect him to be seated.

Just sayin'.

3. Actually, I think the Senate has the power NOT to seat a member whose bona fides are, uh, tainted.
I read that somewhere...

4. They have had the power to do a lot of things...
they just don't have the spines. And, Harry Reid is at the top of the "invertebrate list."

5. Yes....BUT....
the Senate can rule on the CONSTITUTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS of a new Senator....such as age and residency. The Supreme Court has specifically addressed this issue as well!

I think Reid is a chicken-xxxx. Running for cover. Want to keep as far away as possible from Dumb-Kluck-Blago.

However, this is disappointing that he would forget that little thing called the Constitution.....

If the Senate was able to reject a newly elected Senator for other than Constitutional qualifications, then it could usurp the will of the voters of the states! Sure Blago is a numb-nutt, but he still has the constitutional power to appoint the senator until such time as he is removed from such power.

12. I am hearing that if Blago is impeached, his successor can effectively
"cancel" the Burris nomination and appoint his/her own candidate.

This is looking more and more like a huge mess. Blago is a disgrace. I'm furious that he is making life more difficult for Obama starting out. But the, why am I surprised...

6. Harry Reid is so ineffectual.
I say let Burris be seated and go about the peoples' business. In 2010 elect another Democrat.

I find Joe Lieberman keeping his committee chairmanship more reprehensible that the seating of Burris.

8. Burris will be seated. Lieberman gets to keep his chairmanship.
Mukasey is the AG. FISA was passed. Harry Reid is a wimp.

7. blagojovich
blago said some things in a private conversation, which is
legal, he can say anything anyone should have that right , but
when you carry it out or start to then its a problem, he knew
they were listening and that's why he said it to rattle the
eavsdroppers, blago's a prankster that's all

9. Welcome to DU. My commentary is more about Reid
than about Burris or Blago. If Reid says something "will be done" you can count on it not being done. And, if he says the Senate won't do something, you can bet that the Senate will do it.

Reid is a sorry excuse for a "leader."

:hi:

10. Can't Fitz
say whether or not there was any contact between Blago/Burris? If he can clear that much then it's really on Burris' record that they are rejecting him. It takes away Reid's argument.

11. It may be a moot point.

Blo-J has the power to appoint a new Senator to fill the vacated seat, but I believe the Illinois Secretary of State has to certify the appointment Jesse White has put out a statment that he won't certify. If he refuses to sign, the appointment doesn't fly, putting an end to Old Harry's problem.

(I can't type worth a damn tonight...)
