A wonderful movie about how easy it would be to dupe the people, get then all riled up behind a phony cause and then sweep in and turn it all to Fascism. They even called it a New Order, discipline and toughs...
It's funny, Gary Cooper one of the most Republicans of Republicans in Hollywood starred in this anti conservative movie and stood behind Carl Foreman, a blacklisted writer who John Wayne threated until Coop stood up for Freedom of speech. The movie went on to win several Oscars but not for Foreman who ended up leaving America in the fifties. He still wrote under assumed names but was not welcomed back into the US until th elate 60's...
It's funny to watch what has become of the once proud Conservative Movement. Cooper saw conservatism as freedom of speech, freedom to make money, freedom to express art, freedom to be what you could be. Kind of like what the forefathers may have thought.
Now, well conservatism today is all about conserving what the wealthy have amassed at what ever cost, conserving the freedoms of those who are all ready free at the expense of others.
You should watch the movie...

and what it's really supposed to be. In today's world, I might be considered - in some ways - a conservative. So might you.
How the word is used today is a total and utter corruption of the philosophy behind the conservative movement in this country. Don't let them fool you - they're just angry bigots who co-opted a label and then made it into something that would make the founders of that movement gag and turn away.
